the only concern i have with going after lever is that we will be paying him big $'s, then in the next few years we will have others throwing big $'s at Hogan and Trac, Hunt, etc. which means we have to offer them big $'s to keep them.

Don't think it will be an issue if we are contending.

The CBA is going up and guys like Lewis, Jones & Vince will be finishing up or retired.

They will be replaced by younger players on a lower wage.

I'm not sure why people are so concerned with what we might potentially pay Jake. Todd Viney  and his list management team plan for every conceivable senario years out from it eventuating. This will not be a panicked, spur of the moment decision.

Three opportunities to give a straight answer and he didn’t. He’s GAWN and hopefully headed our way.

Agree.

A 20% CBA increase in the cap means $800k is the same as $650k in the past.

And $650k in a few years will be the equivalent of $500K.

You also have to pay market rates to get someone decent.

Not too much to pay given all defenders can pressure but few can make goid decisions and he will likely be with mfc player the rest of his career

Wasn’t disgraced today out on the big stage. Played ok considering how easy the tigers got the ball in.

Was very average, was OK in the first quarter and racked up some junk time stats late in the game. Gave away a shocking free kick that costed a goal when Adelaide were doing well early.

Showed his lack of speed today and again didn't match up on a quality opponent. You would want a player of his size who is not going to play KP,  to take the likes of Martin or Dangerfield.

Still don't see him being worth the kind of money that is being talked about, whether that is 750 or 900.

Watching the game today through a haze of cheroot smoke and the taste of an Asahi or three it seems obvious we need pace pressure and power and this boy was a rabbit in the headlights so pick 27 and nothing else but also plain to see wattsy is yesterday's hero so pick 29 form port would be okay and keep 10 for speed......

The sad thing is we will pay top dollar, then the Crows will easily find a replacement for him and not miss a beat.

I wouldn't be against keeping pick 10 and forgetting Lever...   groom Joel SMith for that role.

Lever plays a role that we desperately lack in term of his intercept marking. It's why we're paying overs to get him. He's a huge missing link

Yeah that's true, no doubt!  And if you scratch your left [censored] whilst looking over your right shoulder, that's also indicative of a liar. Or perhaps you just have crabs.

Fully agree. Overated, nowhere near a first round pick. Develop what we have already and go hard at quality runners who can kick a football

Hmmmm, value dropped a tad today, looked to big and slow for the smalls. Will not be tall enough or strong enough to play on the bigger talls.

Lucky for him most teams have 3rd tall forwards and he can play the intercept role.

The kid is good, great below his knees, doesn't fumble, good evading skills and can read the play.

Regardless if we are giving overs, does this kid walk into our best 22?

Most of us believe we should chase players to make us better, he will.

I think Jake was quite good today, best of the crows and helped to keep the scoreline from getting real ugly.

Yeah he does. But. We should inquire as to the availability of Nick Hayne (GWS). I would rate him as good a prospect as Lever. So we have more than one card to play here. Whether the club play it or not. But I would. As to Lever, he did ok today - below his best (but ok). Rance was important for Richmond, and Lever is miles ahead of Rance at this stage of his career. Lever is quality. The thing is, so is Haynes, and can we find other key position back man of quality - in order to make Adelaide believe we aren't do or die on this deal? We need to drive this price (picks wise) down.

Jake Level is 1cm taller than TMcD..... i would think that Hibberd would be getting a small to pick up first.

Think Nick may be on his way to St Kilda.

It's not up for debate

hes coming

deal done

move on

spoke to my man today regarding Hogan. Was told he's not part of the untradeables but only leaving for absolute top dollar. His management are adamant he's happy in Melbourne and that he'll remain a Dee for quite some time.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
