At 22, some of his defensive plays are insane.

Some of his spoils last night went as far as 30 metres.

And his composure with ball in hand is super impressive.

I don't care what we give up, he is going to be the best defender in the comp within a few years.

So he's on a par with Oscar according to some here....Straight swap anyone?

The contrasting form of Maynard and Tyson in the second half of the year has made Tyson very expendable. The best way to get Lever without giving up too much would be to get Tyson to another Vic team.

Something like...

Melb -   out: Tyson, pick 10                                             in: Lever, pick 38

Adel -    out: Lever, pick 18                                               in: Gibbs, pick 10

Carl -     out: Gibbs, pick 38                                              in: Tyson, pick 18

Adelaide would be laughing in that trade.

I think that is a fair trade for all...

Great game from Maynard today.

Carlton giving their second round pick to Adelaide would help but they traded it out last year. Gibbs is worth a lot though - he's only 28 and is in the top 50 players in the AFL. Adelaide could definitely use him

The main point I'm trying to make though is that I think Tyson and 10 is a reasonable trade for Lever (and something small back) and that Adelaide should take it if Tyson can be exchanged for something reasonable. He'd be worth an early second round pick (late first at a stretch) I would have thought.

While i am not Tysons biggest fan he is worth more than receiving pick 38 in your scenario. I agree is worth an early 2nd rounder.

Lol. We need more mids, we don't need to be giving the mids we already have away. Particularly, the ball magnets. Tyson's disposal (by foot) was horrible in 2017, but he continues to get the ball. It's about correcting the decision making and getting that knee sorted, not trading him. An idiotic suggestion really, but each to their own.

Our midfield is Oliver, Viney, Petracca and Salem, then the old guys like Jones, Lewis and Vince (the butcher) might go through there too. Add our half backs/forwards like Melksham and Hunt into the mix as well. But don't mention the likes of AVB, Trenners or JKH. Now that is not a very deep midfield and it was exposed in the back end of 2017 with even the simple omission of Viney. We desperately need guys that get the ball a lot from the stoppages, because it means the opposition aren't getting it from the stoppages. Tyson is one of these guys. Say what you like about his disposal, but he's near the elite category in terms of getting the ball.

Lever will get done if he wants to come here. It'll be pick 10 and an exchange of picks or a trade that potentially involves another club. I'll trust the club to make the right decision.

You can get quality without giving up quality. We aren't going to get lever for 10 and a pack of chips. Tyson is replaceable with Maynard who hardly played this year and looks like being a similar style of ball magnet. Yes, we need more midfielders but we are very strong inside and rather need outside class and speed (which Tyson does not provide). He's a good but limited player in an area where we are well served.

Btw, belittling what is a reasonable suggestion reflects idiocy towards you, not me. Thinking that Tyson's deficiencies can be fixed easily adds a bit of delusion to that too.

Many recite possession numbers. And Tyson has high possesion counts. His disposal is [censored] and has been for 2 years. You seem to think it isnt a big deal. I do think it is because I see us running out of gas 18 weeks into the season this year and last. My view is we are contesting fine but players are wearied from not getting enough clean balls to lighten their load and eventually it kills the team. Hawthorns well known ability to  pinpoint kicks and handballs helped keep them fresh into September.  Tysons not the only one but he is obvious because he can get the pill.

Here is an interesting article estimating how much some key players might benefit from the CBA windfall on their contract renewal.  http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/show-me-the-money-afl-players-seeking-pay-days-in-2018-20170907-gycjyw.html

Summary:

  • TOM LYNCH - $1.3 million
  • BEN BROWN - worth more than $700,000
  • CHRISTIAN PETRACCA - between $550,000 to $600,000
  • TOBY GREENE - up to $700,000
  • SAM DOCHERTY - more than $600,000
  • PATRICK CRIPPS - $600,000 a year is within reach
  • MAX GAWN - over $700,000
  • MARCUS BONTEMPELLI  - around $800,000
  • OTHERS TO WATCH:  Rory Sloane, Marc Murphy, Cam Guthrie, Lachie Whitfield, Jamie Elliott, Phil Davis, Oscar McDonald, Luke McDonald

That suggests a player needs to be a potential match winner/champion to earn over $600,00.  It makes me wonder if we on DL sometimes overestimate a targeted player's package.  Having said that I'm sure clubs would pay a lot more to lure them away.

If we get Lever and if reports of $800,000+ are correct I would imagine Maxy would be rather put out!

Lever would become our second highest paid player behind Hogan.  Won't be easy keeping all our talent if rumours on Lever's package are correct and if we get him.

To be fair Luci, I don't think their "package" should have anything to do with the deal.

I don't think lever will leave the crows without the offer being overs potentially in a $$$ sense but I consider him a hogan level talent and he's going to be around the all australian mark for a decade so well worth it

    GAMEDAY: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
