Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever

Surely we'd have to look at getting a three way trade done with the crows and blues

although the blues are known to greatly overrate their own players. This is evident with SOS cleaning out all his picks from the giants

My complicated attempt would be

we send sam frost and our second rounder ( 28) to the crows for their first rounder (16-18)

we send (16-18) and 2018 second round pick for Bryce Gibbs.

Bryce Gibbs goes to Adelaide in exchange for jake lever

jake lever comes to us.

Crows get Gibbs, frost and a second rounder for a first rounder and lever

we get lever for frost and 2 second rounders

blues get a first and a second rounder for Gibbs

we get jake lever into the club and retain our pick number 10 and 2018 pick

Prepared 2 lose Frost like we keep our first round picks

It's on!! - https://www.facebook.com/TheZanottiFiles/

I'd say Zanotti has around a 95% strike rate

It's going to take a very large offer to change the course of Jake Lever's future.

It's our understanding that he has verbally committed to Melbourne for 2017 and beyond.

I know he was simply asked the question and answered honestly, but I liked it much better when under Roos we stfu about potential trades and talked only when they were done. Of course the media now paints it that we expect Lever to saunter over to us.

It's not hard to either shut up or play dumb and not give away stupid headlines.

FMD! Is there a worse club at premature expectation than the MFC?

Have a read of what he is actually quoted as saying, nothing controversial at all.

Of course, and if you read my post you'd see that I did

We don't need players commenting on potential trades. After saying he knew nothing of it, Pig should've played a straight bat and said "that's the domain of the recruiting guys", rather than commenting on media rumours and stating that he'd love to play along side him. Media training 101 really

Individually it's a storm in a tea cup, but with all the other Lever media hype we will look stupid yet again should this trade fall through. Hopefully it won't

'For 2017 and beyond'.

Geez I wish we had him about 2 weeks ago against Collingwood.

2018 and beyond haha

North have $2m+ to splash around.  Watch them come and trump MFC offer.  They are desperate to get an 'in-demand' player.  They also have better picks to offer the Crows.

Crows have shown they will play hard ball with trades in recent years.

Lots of water to go under the bridge still.

I was told Kelly knocked back North as he saw them as struggling in the next few years. If he views them like that and presumably his manager too, they may have gone off the radar as a destination club and money alone may not get top players there.

Agreed.  Can't see why a player would go there.

But my concern is North interest/effort will push up the contract price and/or the Crow's trade request.

If Jake choses us, its irrelevant what North has to offer trade wise as they are not involved in the deal. Adelaide may hope he chooses a team with better picks, but they wont have the option to tell Lever where he must be traded. So yeah, if jake wants to come to us, The Crows will just have to accept what we can trade.

Contract price is obviously a different story so i agree with you there.

Welcome to Ninthbourne Jake !!

Crows probably will but I think it is bit of a myth to say that they have to.  They can play hard ball like GCS did with O'Meara, forcing Hawkes to sell their 2018 1st pick cheaply to the Saints.

Crows have shown they won't just play the game in past deals; they fight for what they want and don't fold lightly.

And, Jake may be seduced by the $$$ North might offer...It wouldn't be the first time a player has been diverted to another club:  Clarke, Tippett and to a lesser extent Buddy.

My initial point was a deal isn't done until its done.

No doubt about it. Cant count your chickens and all that.

Im sure Adelaide will drive a hard bargain. Every club has the responsibility to extract the best deal possible when a quality player leaves.

Sure, he could be seduced by the big bucks, but so far there has been zero indication Nth are even in contention. (Cue Mitch Clark scenario..........)

My fingers are crossed we land him as i believe he will be a huge addition to the side. Mac Snr could very well win the Coleman next year lol. *jks

I don't know a thing about this twitter account (if credible..etc), but the following was posted a couple of days ago...

WOW...Melbourne has exited the race...?

IF, IF true it could only mean the club has found a bigger fish or Lever's price/trade deal got too high.

Will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Not really, look at his post the day before, Lever was signed up to the crows for 2 years. Just another lame facebook page that pretends they know what is happening

I had wondered  what goes as we resigned Frosty. Must be a mid we're seriously chasing

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
