Wow. How is that for a spine? Shivers.

That is an awesome handful of players, it's not a "spine"...

with Lever our spine in 2018+ might look like.

FB: Lever

CHB: TMac

C: Petracca/Oliver

CHF: Hogan

FF: Weid/Gawn/??

Not a bad old style spine.

Rubbish!

oscar will end up as our premier gun defender. Lever not needed.

watch last Monday. Better to spend big bucks on a gun, truly fast, midfielder. Watch how Treloar cut us up

He might end up a decent player, might.  Jake is already playing great football.

I fail to understand why we wouldn't chase someone who's already playing at a level that we can only dream of Oscar reaching.

Especially someone who is young enough to improve even further who has a big carrot in the home factor being dangled in front of him.

I have nothing against Oscar but this kids a jet

Problem with going after Lever is what we would have top him. Well not so much what we pay him but what we would then have to pay a large number of current player. You can't have lewis asking player to ask for less and then pay someone else overs.

O Mac was magnificent today

I honestly think Lever would make us a better side...but where does he fit in? 2x Macs and Frost, plus Hibberd and Jetta, then rebound in Hunt and Salem, plus Lewis, Vince and Jones rotating through defensively...how does Lever fit in?

He doesn't fit. Even if he did he is staying in Adelaide. Said that other week on air that he is just waiting for CBA to be announced. I have seen a lot of players say one thing to the media and do the opposite, but if Lever is one of them then perhaps he should go into acting. He was straightforward about his intentions of remaining a Crow.

We have a back line that is growing. We don't need Lever IMO. He would be a luxury.

Brilliant if true! I struggle to believe it but very excited to see. First game I have missed in years flying to LA for the honeymoon.

Sure the darl won't mind day 1 flying solo while I catch the replay

Lewis Vince and Jones won't be around forever. Injuries and form will also mean the two Mac's and Frost aren't gonna play 22 games a season. We may have other needs but if you have the chance to land a quality players you don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Outside mid would be my first preference though.

The one I'd be looking at is Kelly. I still think pace and skills on the outside would be a huge boost.

I'd be happy to offer 5-6 years on big money and say if you come to us you'll get money and consistent finals

Kelly is school mates with Hunt and Salem, we are also a destination club if this form keeps up.

Also think our backline is looking good with the addition of Hibberd, the improvement of Omac and Frost and the wildcard Joel Smith.

So after all the talk of who won the Kelly vs Salem/Tyson trade. We would win because we would have all three. Sounds good.

Why are clubs so keen to lure Crow Jake Lever?

If Lever does leave Adelaide and clubs are willing to pay him $800,000 a year on a long term deal, then it looks like it will take a similar trade to the Treloar deal.  Possibly even more given KPD are harder to find than midfielders, and our picks over the next 2 years are not going to be as high as what the Pies' picks were.

That deal was Treloar and a 2nd round pick for a 1st Round Pick in 2 drafts.

What do people think about potentially giving pick 10-12 this year and pick 12-16 next year for Lever?

Taylor's love for Lever and picks like Hannan at 46 make me think he'd be able to find a couple of pretty handy midfielders with these 1st round picks?

I noticed that Lever originates from Romsey. Could that be a significant factor in negotiations? How about free board at BBO's mansion and all the jolly good floggings he could possibly enjoy? Hard to knock that generous offer back

I think supporters fail to understand that not every player on our list will be apart of a premiership or even contribute necessarily.

There's a blueprint to an extent to follow in regards to list management and we're clearly at a stage where we need to start to identify missing puzzle pieces to add to our 'core'.

Now, obviously some demonlanders will have all of Frost and both McDonald's as part of our core. That is simply a non-objective view of the worth of our key defenders. It's a Melbourne supporters view. Where every player has a place.

As far as I'm concerned, none of our three current key defenders possess any significant composure with ball in hand. Frost is an athlete and is still developing basic decision making and kicking execution skills. Whenever he makes a dashing run from defence it's basically a 50/50 whether or not it'll result in a positive bit of play or a turnover. I've said my piece on Oscar and whilst I agree the last one and a half games have been really positive, he is similarly years away from being close to Lever.

We have an opportunity to go hard for a player who would help our cause to no end. We're really only a couple of target players away + the natural development of our core to be challenging consistently for a few years.

Lever is a big game player already, and a key defender who in my eyes will be the best in the game within three years. Frost or O-Mac won't ever be that. Because they don't possess the attribute diversity that he possesses, regardless of development to date. Which is obviously why he was so highly rated in host draft year even on the back of doing his ACL.

Bring him home Dees.

@Luther A bit like your opinion on Weiderman. Lets not go off to early on a underdeveloped 19 yo KPF.

Good one GT.

My opinion on Weideman is that his trade value is low, as he's a virtual unknown commodity. Young key position players often are, due to generally developing later that midfielders and other smaller players.

My saying his currency is low or non-existent doesn't mean I think he has no potential or is a bust, which is what you seem to be saying. He has great potential and should be afforded plenty of time to develop. I don't want us to trade him, and if the club were to try and trade him I don't think we'd get much for him.

Happy?

You do not, I repeat.. do not spend that kind of money on a player. You build a premiership, not buy one. Would rather look at someone like a Lesley to fill that spot and develop him. Frost came cheap as chips and he has started to develop into a key back for us.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom
