Hogan out can hang his head in shame today. Not only would he have kicked 6 against them, but the entire team would have been straightened up. The umpires didn't help, and the Gawn injury really hurt us... but Hogan was the biggest out by far. Already that important to us.

We had no presence in the forward line once Gawn went down and Watts was thrown into the ruck. Had Hogan played, the ball would have come to ground far more and the defenders would have been second guessing themselves. Plus he would have clunked at least a couple.

Let's hope he learns from it.

I was curious when I read this the first time but thought I'd wait and see because you may well have been right although at best it was a guess.

When Gawn went down yesterday and Watts went into the ruck my heart sank for a number of reasons.  Watts did exceptionally well for the next 2 quarters but predictably ran out of steam playing against two players who are much bigger.  But my heart sank because I knew that in the forward line we'd be left with two key forwards with less than 10 games experience between them with the "experienced" player not yet anywhere near being ready to be the primary forward target.  Had Hogan been playing we'd have been in a significantly stronger position and may well have taken more advantage of our dominance in the second and third quarters.

And for what it's worth Lewis would have been handy.

I trust now most recognize the stupidity of these two players actions and can see the bigger picture and the impact it potentially has on our chances and performance this year.  IMO they were both stupid and unjustifiable actions and shouldn't be defended.  We need to move on but I'm both angry and disappointed with these two - not, as Lewis says, that they'll care.

We're not in any sort of position to have good players unavailable for any reason ... injuries happen but unforced errors of judgement can be critical.  Our list just isn't that strong (yet)

Perhaps the coaching staff should have made a greater example of Vince's brain-fade in round 1.  Of course, we didn't see any such indiscretions yesterday - but as these things go, we got the bad outcome in another area (the injury to Gawn)

In sport, you make your own luck but poor outcomes should never be self inflicted. 

We now go into the next bank of 3 games with 3 of our best 6 or 7 players unavailable for a good chunk of those games.  Add in an out-of-form Viney,  an unavailable Hibberd and a wasteful Tyson and we're up against it.

We'll now need some luck on our side for a favourable outcome in the next month.

Great to see both Cripps and Rowe out there for Carlton today. TOTALLY nothing in it. 

Youd think with a fractured jaw Cripps should be wearing a helmet?

They stitched us up and added a week to each suspension. Absolute dog of a club.

Losing yesterday doesn't make their actions any worse or more postworthy today.

If either or both were to be genuinely concussed today, and if schadenfreude could somehow be harnessed to generate electricity, then mine would have the potential to power the lights at the 'G for about three weeks.

I was responding to someone who said that their suspension wouldn't be the difference between winning and losing.  The poster is right if we had won all our games in their absence.  We didn't and I think not having Lewis and especially Hogan impacted very significantly on yesterdays result.

Clearly I'm talking about the impact or consequence of their actions not the actions themselves.  And as we lost yesterday some posters might reflect on their initial view.

We lost essentially because we missed very gettable goals. 

That as such had nothing to do with Lewis or Hogan. Everything to do with those actually holding the ball.

Not at all, both boys are not well. Rowe has a cold from the rain today and Cripps has leather poisoning from today's game.
