CASEY DEMONS 2017 PRE SEASON

I'm currently on leave but I'm looking forward to reports from Sunday's game.

I think one of the problems facing AFL clubs with teams in the VFL is the fact that the starts to the seasons for the competitions are so far apart.

Casey is having its first hit out against another VFL team this weekend and yet Melbourne finished its pre season gamesย  more than a week ago,

This has left quite a few players in a bit of a limbo without much game time, especially since Simon Goodwin basically stuck with almost the same squad throughout the three JTL games.

ย

As you say a real issue. And then there are the byes (only two this year I think)

Add in our interstate games (two of which are our own fault) where players are taken as emergencies plus any where the VFL game is played before or close in time to the AFL game thus again taking emergencies out of play and one can see how hard it is for players on the fringe to get real game time

ย

Played all 3 JLT: Hogan, Jones, Salem, Petracca, Lewis, Viney, Brayshaw, Gawn, Oliver, Stretch, Melksham, Vince, T Mc, Weeds, O Mc, Hunt, ANB, Bugg, Spencer, Harmes

Inj: JKH, Wagner, Hibberd, Frost, Vanders, King

Apparently 17 to play

FB: Jetta ย  Garland
HB: J Smith Hulett ย McKenna
C: ##### Tyson
HF: Kentย Pedersen ย Watts
FF: Garlett Keilty Hannan
Foll: Flipper? ย Trengove ย Kennedy
Int: Johnstone ย ?Maynard (?T Smith ย ?White I think have had niggles recently)

I reckon there's at least 4 and maybe up to about 6 spots available for guys playing at Casey. Tyson, Watts, Garlett could just lock up 3 of them with solid performances but 3rd tall defender (Garland or J Smith or even Jetta with a smaller line up), half forward (Kent) and tall forward/ruck (Pedda) could also make a mark. Plenty to play for.

Keilty will only be playing the last 3ย quarters so here is my starting lineup;

FB: Jetta Hutchins Garland

HB: J Smith Watts McKenna

C: Kent Gent Kennedy

HF: Hulett Pederson T Smith

FF: Garlett Hannan Johnstone

Foll: Filipovic Trengrove Tyson

Int: Keilty White Maynard + Casey

20 played all 3 JLT. ย I see 4 in and 2 out.

Agree Tyson, Garlett and Watts have the opportunity to cement their spots.

Either J.Smth or Garland also in.

One of Spencer or Weed plays and one out, the MC already has the info for that decision.

Probably ANB out too, or maybe Harmes.

I would expect whoever is lined up to play the Saints next week will only play half game timeย on average so it will be interesting to watch the rotationsย and watch who sits out in the 2nd half.

Should be an indication of selection.

I doubt anyone will play a full game on a 6 day break running into the first game of the season.

Yep, makes total sense. I'm expecting a fair few Casey listed players to rotate through for that exact reason. I'll be sure to try to track how much game time the big name players have (Watts, Tyson etc.)

ย

After some consultation, this will be the lineup for tomorrow's game;

FB: Jetta Hutchins*ย Garland

HB: Hulett J Smith McKenna

C: Scott* Gent*ย Kennedy

HF: Pederson Watts T Smith

FF: Garlett Hannan Kent

Foll: Filipovic Trengrove Tyson

Int: Keilty White Maynard Johnstone + 4x Casey

* - Casey players

Surely they will play more interchanges and therefore give some more Casey listed players a go at this level?

ย

Yep, 8 on the bench and unlimited interchangesย

Thanks D167. ย Hulett at HB and Hannan at FF ..... very interesting if that's the way they line up on the day.

Watts output will be interesting. His presence at Subiaco was not as convincingย as hoped. I am unsure of what ย has got into him. I would have thought 2017 would have been his opportunity to put forward a message to the league i.e ย that he is worth his billing as an elite talent. What other motivations does he need?? Hogan has resigned and we have a committed core pf die hards. Nothing like we have seen over the past 20 yrs.

ย

Jack Watts: Despite our clubs unwavering support of his presumed (and flashes) ofย brilliance, ย the only consistent in Watts' portfolioย is his consistent failure to uphold his promise. Even McCartney (who has an enviable track record for grooming elite talent - ย think Ocean Grove/Geelong FC/Dogs) seems to have failed. His influence on other players rebukesย this anomaly with regard to the emergence of Brayshaw, Oliver, Hunt. Trak, Weed. Smith, Hogan and O Mac. (honorable mentions to JKH, ANB, Hulett and Maynard).I am sure there will be more to add to this imnpressive list of emerging talent.

ย

I for one hope he does a 180. That said, there is not much room for sentimentality in war. He has shown he doesnt have what it takes to be a leasder of this club. Others have overtaken him in the pecking order. His mates Wil (old McDonald) ย stick up for him. Counts for little thou with a new coach;ย a credible one at that ย given heย can be tough enough to ย see through all the crap, ย including ego.ย ย ย ย ย

Just arrived at the ground.

It's a beautifully sunny day here in Cranbourne and is slowly heating up, I don't envy the boys playing today asย theย sun has a fair bit of bite to it.

Unfortunately the jumper numbers are a bit of a mess at the moment and without any sort of VFL record or team listย I will struggle identifying players but I'll try my best.

Have they installed an eftpos machine yet? If they have I'll leave my current address - the Tatry Ski Club at Mount Buller - and slip down the mountain.ย But only if they have eftpos facilities.

Kent in everything early. Goal to Garlett. Watts doing some ruck work and looking sharp. Spencer won't play next week. Pedo involved. Replaces Weideman for me.

Are you saying spencer won't play because they are trialling jack in ruck?ย

Sort of. Wouldn't risk Spencer at Etihad. Pedo and Watts to help in ruck duties.BTW,Trengove BOG atm. Just kicked a goal. Joel Smith excellent.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chancesโ€”plenty of themโ€”but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Portโ€™s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmyโ€™s inclusive bannerโ€”"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwoodโ€™s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.ย

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
