What did you think? To me it seems like the interviewers were reading too much into what Max was saying but Max was being very vague about it all.

The first 8 questions were about Watts! Max handled them diplomatically. He must have been thinking WTF!?

However ... he could have said "Goody wanted to take a look at some of the other blokes and see how they're travelling." Or, "he's got a bung hand."

Instead he said stff like, well, he didn't make the squad of 24. He is fit and ready to play, he just wasn't picked.

Which sounds a lot like there is smoke, and maybe even fire.

No mistaking it. Watts hadn't prepared himself to a standard to get picked in the 24 on Saturday.

I'm convinced that rumour is true.

I wonder if Wattsy got on the [censored] when he came back from the Qld Camp.  He was very poor at the intraclub.  Maybe he was hungover or still feeling the effects.

That would be punishable, and could explain the poor performance.

From reports I got the impression that he had had a solid preseason up till then.

What a blow-up.

It's all fairly self-explanatory.

The calls that Jack came back underdone/that he enjoyed the off-season are pretty far-fetched.

Clearly he didn't perform as well as he needed to in the intra-club to get first look in and we have a host of forwards who did. Structurally we can't fit them all in so Watts was left out of the first JLT game.

That's pretty much what Gawn suggested anyway and is hardly a surprise given this is the AFL. A good thing for Watts, keep him keen.

Pro Dee loves a J Watts story but.

I agree he didnt light up the intraclub but he was laughing and joking with Macca and Goody near the end of the session after he cramped up... Doesnt seem like the thing to do if they were particularly disappointed in his efforts...

And even if Watts was in trouble, would the coaching staff necessarily tell any player other than Watts.

If there is nothing else to report from Max, can the mods merge this with the 'Jack Watts' thread please, otherwise this will have the same 5 pages repeated, ad nauseum!

Was anything discussed OTHER than #4?

They asked him about his beard.... Gawn spoke very well, didn't get flustered at any time imo. Said that goodwin's game plan had been coming for a while, so it wasn't such a big change this year. I think the Watts issue is being blown out of proportion. They tried spencer and weideman so perhaps will add watts later. Gawn as much said the same.

the interview is worth a listen. The media had an agenda and I don't think it would matter what Gawn said about Watts, they wanted an issue.

Max has also moved house.  Now lives in Malvern.

I thought he was coming to join us hipsters in Fitzroy. Very disappointed. Malvern really, how bland!

KB played part of the interview, the questions on Watts, on his show this morning, his take was that Watts may be down on training intensity and it was a credit to the coaching staff that they are sending a clear message to the squad that names and reputations don't count, you will have to perform to get a game this year.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 13th November 2024

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers braved the rain and headed down to Gosch's paddock to bring you their observations from the second day of Preseason training for the 1st to 4th Year players. DITCHA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I attended some of the training today. Richo spoke to me and said not to believe what is in the media, as we will good this year. Jefferson and Kentfield looked big and strong.  Petty was doing all the training. Adams looked like he was in rehab.  KE

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
