That effort by Brayshaw against Murphy was embarrassing.

20sec left in a practice match who cares.

Dees win by a goal.

Interesting game.

Technically 2 goals.  I don't count super goals.

Having Jordan Lewis out there in the dying stages will do wonders when the real stuff begins. He was everywhere late.

Wonky last 10 minutes but great win overall. Hope those injuries aren’t too bad.

Interesting...

I may have misjudged a little...

Great win today. Still work to do, but they kept it together. Like the jumper, like the gameplan. Happy.

Smarts and experience got the better of him. Murphy's been schooled like that many a time over the years. Hardly embarrassing.

Lovely passage of play!

Great quarter from the boys, absolutely loving the intent, tackling and pressure.  Only negative you could say is that we could be a few more goals ahead.

Your confidence has been rewarded Wiseblood. A good pick.

That should improve membership numbers.

A good win much better than I thought.

I know I was a little harsh of your prediction earlier OD - I just like to keep the optimism up to kick off the year.  If I go in looking at a game and thinking we can't win then I'm in for a long year!

well at least the boys will be in a good mood at the family day tomorrow. Can't get there.

Nice to hear the song at the end.

Joel smith- looks the goods. Well done those that gave him a wrap, think we've got a strong contested player there!

spencer - with the 3rd man up rule - could be vital to our campaign ... who would've thought.

hogan and hunt - solid matches...

trac and Bradshaw building.

Missed the game today, just wanted to know who impressed and any injuries?

Lewis top ballwinner.

Smith was huge in the first half, didn't notice him as much in the latter.

Salem is all class, but we knew that.

Jones and Viney the usual.

Oliver was good and did freakish things.

Garlett had a heap of assists. Very unselfish game.

HOGAN! Four goals five marks.

Vince was our second biggest ballwinner, but I hardly noticed him.

Tracca was solid but needs more ball.

Wagner injured. Looked like a knee from here. He overextended trying to impact a marking contest and landed really badly.

We have had  quite a few long years in the last decade so I look forward to along year of wins in 2017.

So, for what it's worth, my take:

1.  No stars;

2.  Spencer and Smith provided all the right signs;

3.  Somewhat contradictory to the above, we were more dominant with big Max in the ruck;

4. That was the reigning premiers we just played, so that's got to be worth something.

All the right signs at this time of year, which is certainly better than the wrong ones.

On an aside.... I am amazed that betting is allowed on what is a practice game with no obligation on the coach to try and win.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

    Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

    The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

    A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

    The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

    Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
