It's just one guy but I've heard Viney has been great for Petracca, whom the Saints labelled as difficult when the passed on him in the draft. Similarly Jones has been really good for Brayshaw, even if he was probably the easier one to mentor. I don't think Viney's perfect, but if he's ready to take on the responsibility and be accountable for his mistakes sharing the job might just be perfect. Disgraceful decision. Viney is too young and surfs too much for him to be co-captain.
DeeSpencer 26,667 Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 If not for missing a string of games through injury Viney would be a back to back best and fairest winner. Talent shouldn't have a huge bearing on leadership, but I think performance is an important factor and I think it's fair to say Viney is our best performed player over the last 2 years. That's worthwhile considering.

By the sounds of things Jones had no idea it was going to happen.

AzzKikA 2,371 Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Just now, Billy said: Fair enough, but he can still do that as the sole captain Not really, it's not just an on field job, there is plenty that they do for the club when the others have left and put their feet up.

Of course he wouldn't have been expecting it, but it's not like we've forced him in to stepping aside, or premature retirement. I'd trust that Goody approached the situation very delicately, as with the utmost respect the Jones.
dazzledavey36 56,278 Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Don't like this decision at all.

Take a look at Goodwin's presser, explains a lot, and I'm sure this was how he approached it with NJ. It was unexpected, but that doesn't = poorly handled.
DeeZee 7,496 Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Sen just said the six man leadership group had been announced and Lewis was in it but didn't mention any others

AzzKikA 2,371 Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Now we know why Viney loved being called Captain Jack!

Captains: Jones and Viney Leadership group: Lewis, T McDonald, Gawn and Vince. Don't like them pushing Viney into the role so soon. Seems a bit of a slap in the face to Jones. Would've preferred Jones stay sole captain for another 2 years with Viney as Vice and then taking over. Congrats to Viney anyway, he's a legend.
pinkshark 950 Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Co-captains! Why? Load of [censored]. Unnecessary. Whats wrong with Captain and Vice captain? [censored] co-captains. [censored]-House Whilst i'm at it, I just have to ask...Is Burgs the worst interviewer in the history of audiovisual communications. God help me. Been awhile since Ive had a squiz at Demonland, I'm absolutely pumped for upcoming season. Jordan Lewis will be running out for us this season and next. And Hogan. pharkin yibbida, dibbida!!!!!!
iv'a worn smith 1,979 Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Is the sky falling? I don't detect any resentment from NJ in his presser.
Rob Mac...... 643 Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 I'd have preferred they wait another year before doing this, but what do I know? NJ is always going to sound proffesional about the situation, he's a real team oriented fellow. I can't discern his inner feelings from this, he'll do whatever's best for MFC.
In Harmes Way 7,869 Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 The weight of 50+ years of expectation from premiership drought will be easier lifted with two captains raising the cup. Great move. Congrats Jack Viney on the promotion, and well done chunk on maturely accepting you are an even greater leader by not feeling like you've got to go it alone.
