We should not be in the business of bailing out a defunct Springvale, Casey in reality is just a bedpartner to this alliance, 30 year deals?? Why cant we just ditch this "Daliance of Alliance" and become a fully fledged Melbourne??

Casey Scorpions, Casey Demons, BAH,

Because Melbourne singed a business deal with the City of Casey? That's why there's pre season games there, AFLW games there as well as the Melbourne Academy.

And why would they when Casey and Melb are working so well together?

Cmon dude you've got to at least read the stuff I've said before you reply.

Ok, does this 30 year "Bonanza" mean we have "TOTAL" Control over every aspect of footy operations?? Because if it doesn't, then what a shizen deal!

You really shouldn't comment/argue on things when you have no idea what you're talking about man.

Maybe next year get down to a couple of VFL games, talk to the players and the club members and you'll see for yourself exactly why the Casey and Melbourne alignment is a great benefit to both clubs.

You'll get to know that is his way of doing things drunkn, just nod and smile and walk away.

No they do not control every aspect, there is a balance of control over everything that is done.

To make it simple, Melbourne do not have the resources or funding to field a standalone VFL side so they need the assistance of Casey, Casey do not have the resources or funding to field a standalone VFL side so they need the assistance of Melbourne.

Without each other they would both be in trouble.

And so if this is correct, then we are not in very good shape! Why and how can most other clubs afford a stand alone team and we can't?

If we don't get total control over all aspects of footy operations then at some piont we are comprimising our players and our own best afforts!

We were not in very good shape until 3 years ago when some guys from Jackson and Co. came in and gutted the joint and started again. We are now in a reasonable shape as each year we're making gains on KPI's. Since Jackson and Co. came in the following has occurred:

  • Year on year growth in membership numbers.
  • Year on year growth in on field wins.
  • Year on year growth in crowd attendances.

In the coming years we're all expecting these to continue on the same trend as these are what will drive us to on and off field success and allow us to some day have the equity to do things like standalone VFL teams.

The teams that have their own standalone VFL sides have had the capital to be able to afford a VFL side by either having one of or a combination of on and off field success over the last 10 years. While these teams have either been playing finals, winning flags, signing lucrative sponsorship deals and keeping memberships numbers over 50k, we've been not playing finals, finishing bottom of the ladder, losing sponsors, signing sponsors who have impacted our club negatively, and hiring personnel who are not component to manage these issues. I also don't think in the history of our club ever had a membership base over 40k, which for all the history and heritage we have is incredibly poor.

A lot of work has gone into this club in the last 3 years, not everything is going to happen overnight but there is daylight between where we were 3 years ago and where we are now. Unless you're real name is Carlos Tevez then I doubt you have the disposable income to turn to donate to the club to field a standalone VFL side, so in the mean time continue to buy a membership and go to games, and if you're not doing either of those then you're just apart of the problem.

I'm pretty sure we have control over the football operations now 'picket'.

We're not compromising our players at all now, they had priority in the 2016 final series with some Casey regulars missing out.

Now we are in a similar position to the Hawks with Box Hill and it doesn't seem to have done them any harm not having a so called stand alone team.

These are not the days of Fev...we've got this.

Why would we want to shelve the connection we have started to build in that community?

Why burden the relatively small group of supporters in our heartland with the cost of a team in Casey . Let's do all we can to bring Casey/ Springvale families and businesses into the fold

i'll go with rjay on this one...

How many Springvale/Casey Members exist on the books?

As in players or club members?

If club members then quite a few, the board and the majority of the older staff/volunteers are basically all old Springvale people. Super nice and welcoming group of people.

I highly recommend, if you get the chance, to go down to one of their pre game lunches then talking to the members afterwards, really is a great club to be around, which I guess is why I get very defensive and almost angry when I see people arguing *cough picket cough* to try and sever the tie between this 2 great teams, when people don't even know what they're talking about.

My Saturday questions/statements, about this include

1 As above what is the Casey membership numbers as in supporters? How many of these are derived from the old Springvale supporters?

2 What are the details of this agreement which was generated in the CC/ CS Administration years and is this considered a good deal? Does anyone know?

3 How much does it actually cost over and above the current costs associated with the alignment to field a stand alone team?

4 What aspects of Football decisions/ operations do we not have?

5 How many MFC supporters not to mention general footballing public give a Rats about Springvales History? and for that matter what actually is Casey Scorpions/ Demons as an entity? is it a feeding ground? A place for our list to play if not in the firsts? Do MFC Members give a toss about Casey other than the fact our players play there?

Really, as a professional football club, we should have our own stand alone Reserves side. I'll leave it at that.

Casey/Springvale supporters give a rats !!! just because they are a VFL team does not mean the passion is not there, how do you think supporters feel when they lose their club.

It might be good to remember how you felt with the proposed merger,we nearly lost our club it was not a good time and if you cant see past the AFL then how do you think Fitzroy supporters feel .

One of the reasons besides financial we havent had our own reserves is we dont have a suburban ground that we used to play on, we have only ever been at the G and we cant play there so an alignment is our only option .

Its a good deal for both clubs.

Punt Rd?? Vic Park?? Visy Park Carlton?? Junction Oval?? Brunswick Park just to name a few other possible grounds we could play on!

Personally I would love to play at Punt Road, but it has been well-documented by numerous Demonlanders why each of the Grounds that you mentioned are not possible (nor Toorak Park, Brighton, Port Melbourne and other suggestions over the year)! The Casey alignment is showing more positives each successive year and I am sure Jackson and the Board wouldn't have committed us long-term within being confident of this.

Okay I have one question,

The current alignment with Casey has never worked so well, with a full-time Melbourne coach and more funding the club has in just a couple of years gone from the bottom of the VFL to the top, and now with the name change from Scorpions to Demons, this connection is stronger then ever. Why the hell do Melbourne need to ditch this for a 'standalone' team when what they have now is essentially the same thing!?

Drunkn, any rational observer would concur that the Casey / MFC arrangement is operating optimally.  There are control freaks who forget or choose to ignore the origins of the agreement and the stark choices confronting a MFC that was on its knees in every sense at the time it was made.  For them it's something that could be terminated tomorrow in view of our recent financial turnaround and potential future onfield success.  There is a hubris and arrogance that goes with such a view that fortunately doesn't pervade the current MFC administration.  Fortunately those in charge understand the reputational kudos that attaches to meeting your commitments and making them work optimally.

Because we havent got 100% Control over all aspects of footy operations!

They essentially do though? With Plapp as Senior Coach and advisory staff to the Casey board, as well as tightening the business connection, they have the same control as any other AFL team has over their VFL teams.

The Hawks have a similar arrangement with Box Hill don't they?  They've done alright.

I wonder what would happen to sponsorship.  I think that we basically control Casey so control to me is not an issue.  If Casey changed their name to Melbourne and we were stand alone do we lose sponsorship opportunities or gain them?  I don't know but it would be a consideration.  I tend to think we'd lose them.

You would need to look at who the sponsors are. Are they local and therefore want to be associated with The Casey name.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
