Thought we were crazy to give away Gysbertsย for Pedders at the time. Yet here we are.

Did Gysberts even play a game at North?ย

Zero games, delisted after one year.

ย

About as exciting as buying a pair of jocks, but you gotta do it or you end up with holes everywhere.

In saying that, I quite like Pedders as well.

Will be interesting to see where he sits in Goodwin's pecking order.

Think that was clear late in the year...

But he's a plug, just like Spencer or Michie. Handy to have.

Clearly he sits above Dawes.

Dawes was a protected species under Roos. I bet Goody had to bite his tongue quite a bit during matchย committee.

Dawes' calves made the decision more than Goody.

A classic "serviceable" player . ย Shouldn't we be looking to recruit possiblyย  the next Boyd or Patton ?

ย Sensible re-signing a player already on our list - yes a 'serviceable' player, yet also a reliable ย one who does what is asked of him. ย Doesn't that make you happy?

Sure he ain't Boyd or Patton, but he also isn't a top pick, which incidentally we don't have this year.. ย

I am sure the recruiters would be looking out for such, but they can't create picks out of thin air.

IMO he is certainly >>> those two. ย  Sure probably not best 22 when all are available but a very dependable back up.

Clearly closer to the 22 than either of those blokes, but that wasn't a quality comparison, it was saying they're all vanilla players who are needed for depth.

Good news, baffled me when he wasn't included at times this year, as we looked better with him in. He's a good foil for Hogan and leads well at the ball. As a few have already said, players like Pedersen are vital to a good team.

If that's what you choose to believe.

There were occasions throughout this season where Pedo was fit as a fiddle but Roos still picked an out of form Dawes with (as you alluded to) dodgy calves.

Missed my point. Simply saying that given Dawes increasing inability to stay fit, Goodwin didn't even need to make a choice.

ย

Whilst not being a 'gun' we generally play better when he's in the side. glad he's on the list for another season at least

I don't doubt that would've been a big factor.

I'll leave it at that.

Must mean the end was Dawes. If given an injury free run at it I think he would have been a good signing. Ah well, we'll always have his game v Crows at the Adelaide Oval.ย

Good stuff Pedders!

Love this.

As we have all states, he is a solid mark, consistently competitive, strong.

And an all round top bloke, the kind of guy that will help you build a fence but then cook a roast for his mum on a Sunday.
Salt of the earth.

I think we were only ever going to re-sign one of Dawes and Pederson going forward and i think we made the right call.

Dawes is a great bloke but a very limited footballer, Pederson can at least execute most of the basics to a higher level and stay on the park while doing so.ย

PEEEDO!!!

cant wait to see him bump and rag doll players next year. Adds some much needed big man aggression to the fwd line.ย

Dawes will be gone now you'd think.ย

Yep, I think you have hit the nail on the head with a lot of Peddo's value to the side. ย Clear example was a play in the Hawthorn win - Peddo crashes a marking contest around CHF, Weid picks up the loose ball and delivers it deep forward - GOAL. ย Peddo didn't get a stat for that effort, but had great impact on the play, literally and metaphorically. ย I watched him do this sort of thing numerous times over the course of the year, including the PA win (after which I seem to recall he was shockingly dropped). ย How Peddo didn't get rubbed out numerous times throughout the year also surprises me, as he madeย some big bone jarring hits on players walking the razor thin line of physicality in moden football.

I actually think Jesse Hogan could learn something from Peddo on the physical aspects of the game. ย Jesse can make a big physical impact on contests, but I don't think I saw it anywhere near enough over the course of this year. ย There may actually have been a case for dropping him to the VFL like Bulldogs did Stringer...but not sure if that would have helped his 'homesickness'. ย Now that he is re-signed, I expect bigger things from Jesse. ย He came to the club with Carey like comparisons, which I think are warranted, but he clearly needs to take his game to the next level to achieve that.

Obviously things could change over the preseason, but if I'm picking my best 22 to win a game for the club tomorrow I'm selecting Pedo at CHF.

Although given that he is presently recovering from surgery, he may not be the best option 'tomorrow'!!

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chancesโ€”plenty of themโ€”but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Portโ€™s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmyโ€™s inclusive bannerโ€”"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwoodโ€™s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.ย

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
