Father/son Obst?

I've been watching some of the current series of the World Series of Poker Main Event and noticed an Aussie from Adelaide James Obst has finished 13th against a field of 6,736 other players. He made it all the way to the penultimate day of play - the final nine play off for the multi million first prize.

Obst took home a cash prize of USD$427,930 – the largest live score in the 25-year old’s career. 

I was a big fan of MFC 149 game player Andrew Obst who came to Melbourne from Adelaide and the name is almost synonymous with football.

Does anyone know if this young poker player is related to our Andrew?

" Hey, I know this is an old thread, but anyway. Andrew had a brain tumour a few years back which knocked him about a bit but he's fully recovered now. He lives in Adelaide with his wife, former Hockeyroo Juliet Haslam, with their two kids, Jed and Mitchell. He coached an SAAFL (Amateur League) Div 2 side this year from memory, I think it was Port District - they won the division. All-round top bloke I have to say. "

Apparently, James Obst represented Australia at three junior chess championships.

No record of playing AFL footy.

Totally agree. Two of my favorite dees players. They were both great movers and read the game brilliantly. Class.

Christ -  that got me unnecessarily excited.  Obst was one of MFC's / AFL's most underrated players -  he was pure class.

Did the Wikichek. Andrew is 52 so the boys have moved past father son stuff. But the gene pool was good with mum playing for the Hookyroos.
