Break it down to each club's perspective. Switched Rockliff with Hanley since he is apparently going to the suns so that makes more sense for this deal:
Melbourne:
IN: Lewis, 24
OUT: Dunn, 28, 48
GC:
IN: Rockliff Hanley, 2017 Haw 1st, 23 (form Freo)
OUT: O'Meara, 24
Brisbane:
IN: Dunn, 28,
OUT: Hanley
Hawthorn:
IN: O'Meara
OUT: 2017 1st, Lewis, 23

Brisbane is a horrible loser in that deal. I like the thought and its not too far off but. Somewhere you would need to find more for Brisbane to agree to that.

Depends on how much Brisbane wanted to move Rockliff on.  If they were as desperate as some indicated and if GC are as recalcitrant as stated regarding receiving a first class midfielder then they both get what the ultimately want.

This could then be sweetened in a separate deal over Hanley

Note: the trades required to create a win for Brisbane, Hawks and GC don't exist so they find themselves in a position where they have to give a little bit to get their desired result.  Melbourne could orchestrate a separate deal for Lewis without significant disadvantage - in essence the Dee's are being rewarded a little by being the circuit breaker for the other clubs

Just chatting to a Hawks mate who just read that Lewis has allegedly just been spotted at Gold Coast airport? There's more twists and turns to this every minute

He's probably on holiday?

I hate Jordan Lewis mainly because he's a smug, talented winner. Get him.

Why would he be there when all the club officials are in Melbourne?

Did they just give him the keys to the facilities and tell him to have a look around?

Seems pretty far fetched.

Maybe he's applying for a job as a "Check-in Chick"...??

Damian Barrett is reporting on NAB AFL Trade Radio that Jordan Lewis's manager Liam Pickering was meeting with Demons football manager Josh Mahoney this morning.

Has a thing for metre maids apparently

Just imagine the benefits to Nathan Jones captaincy and our leadership across the board, lewis would just offer so much on so many levels, the on field leader/coach we've desperately lacked.

Ones that are "centimetre perfect", no doubt...!

Would Vince hold his spot in 22 with Lewis around?

Yes, but i think Vince is falling down the order of our mids a bit, he's still good enough to be very dangerous on the outside and a long way off falling out of the best 22, but geez he's handy as a 4-5th midfielder

Vince will be up forward next year won't he and will temporarily float into the midfield to provide some grunt?

Hawks could be saying, look if you're really want to go then have a look at Gold Coast  to help them get Omeara across and we will pay part of your salary.

It's all the intangibles Lewis would bring, the experience, leadership, training habits and an insight into the Hawthorn will to win mentality that would be invaluable to us.

That and an ability to hit a bloody target

And what exactly is the benefit for Lewis here?!

"We need you to help us trade in this gun young midfielder by leaving the club and moving your whole family interstate, with a day's notice!"

Sounds a bit too like our HL deal with Collingwood!?

Haha very true. Unless the Gold Coast are willing to chuck a heap of money his way (doubt it), I don't see the benefit for him to uproot his family and move to the GC.

I doubt he's going to the Suns, probably just doesn't want media on his door step.

Can't say I care one way or the other if we get him...

But if it helps Hawthorn implode then I'm all for whatever spanners we can throw into the machine

I'll lay it on the line and say I reckon we've got him.

Would be very hard to look across the change room as a Premiership player and there's that uncoordinated clown Vickery on more coin than you. Bridge too far.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
