Remember Todd Viney a few years back going on about four pillars they were looking for in recruits:

... the recruiters rank the players on competitiveness, physical attributes, football attributes and character.

Not sure if Motlop fits all of these.

Or any of them......

Initially I wasn't keen.

But with none of the clubs being interested in him driving the asking price right down, along with Geelong desperately needing to clear cap space for Deledio and Tuohy- it's definitely become appealing.

And Geelong have a good history of doing generous trades to allow their players to land where they want without hassle.

So you want someone just because you want a trade done? Good reason.

If no one is interested then clubs must know something we don't.  We all know how inconsistent he can be, which includes some electrifying performances and some absolute shockers, and I understand why some supporters would be interested.  But if he is being dangled as trade bait and no one is keen, what's the problem?  Cats asking for too much?  Clubs don't think he can get any better than he currently is?  Pest off the field?

Who knows, but if the FD are showing no interest in him then I'd hazard a guess that he is not someone really worth pursuing.

What's the deal with Viv Michie? Can we use him in a trade for Motlop, or is VM just biding his time until he's delisted in a year or two and in that case, why is he still on our list? Michie or ANB and a pick could get it done?

Why would Geelong have any interest at all in Viv Michie?  He isn't worth anything.  Adding him to a 'pick' won't get anything done as it doesn't add any value.

You obviously haven't heard about a little sweetener called "steak" and "knives."

In this case it's a well done steak with a plastic knife.

The little sweetener is actually "cr" and "ap".

I'd trade Garlett for Motlop + Pick swap. Our 3rd for their 4th I suppose.

Garlett doesn't seem to be weighing heavily in anyones major plans going forward and he has a reasonable amount of worth.

They'd probably want Kent though.

I reckon the fact that he has just recently signed a three year extension suggests that Jeffy is weighing heavily in the club's plans going forward.

I meant Demonlanders. A lot of people lost confidence in him this year and when the forward line is spoken about on the forum, it's usually only Hogan/Watts/Wiedeman mentioned re long term with Kent and Petracca as the other untradeables flanks/pockets. Extension or not, if we want Motlop we have to give something. No Steak knives :/

You build your forward line around your key forwards. Jeffy is still our #1 small forward. 29 goals from 17 games in a year he'd rather forget is not awful. I'd be backing him to bounce back strongly next year.

Just a tip for you when it comes to posting about potential trade ideas.

Step 1- pick up phone

Step 2- put down phone

Step 3- walk away.

I'm not disputing that Jeffy has worth. But Motlop however you put it, is an upgrade on Garlett and he's on the market.

That's debatable and Jeffy is already on our list. It costs nothing to bring him on.

You are kidding, Motlop is the biggest front runner in the AFL!!  Bigger even than Bruest and Mayne!

Would not even consider him for a set of plastic knives and forks, no name brand burgers and recycled toilet paper towels!

This has become the newest meme in the AFL: how bad Motlop is due to some especially poor efforts in the last month. It's confirmation bias

Take a look at his stats. Admittedly in the midfield, but still. 80 fantasy points per game is nothing to be sneazed at.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
