Max Gawn was interviewed by Neil Mitchell today. Here's a link to the 3AW website where you can listen. The chat is more about life outside football than onfield matters. That's not a surprise given that Neil Mitchell is not a sports journo but a "serious news" talkback host. He's also nominally a Melbourne supporter.

Max comes across as a humble, mature, impressive individual.

I guess so if you believe in beat ups and the old journo's axiom of never letting the facts get in the way of a good ole fashioned populist gabfest.  But great to hear Maxy just the same.

It's a typical Melbourne day. Most livable city I hear some of you say!?

It all started off looking so bright. The sun shone through distant clouds , twas a heavenly sight.

Yet within a few hours the heavens did open. The eddy  circling,  umbrellas were carried and dogs started mopin'!

But there's nothing, nothing, nothing as dark or as doomish than a radio tuned in to good old Neil Mitchell ...AKA Mr. Gloomish!

So I wonder who the mystery person was that began to hate footy and saw it as a job only? CS springs to mind.

Not Schwabby, the other CS.

The AFL would be packed with players in that position, surely.

Interestingly, that's the second time in a few weeks this topic has come up - someone was talking about their mate at St Kilda who thought the same thing...

I hadn't thought of it before that, but I guess it makes sense really. You're right, there must be a lot of them!

After a fair bit of brain racking I concluded Sylvia.  Not sure why we couldn't just say it.

Oh, right.

Makes sense. I was thinking Christian Salem, but it didn't seem correct.

Damn. I knew there'd be another CS I hadn't accounted for.

Yeah I meant Col.

I've got a mate who's mates with Langford from Hawthorn and he reckons he just sees it as a job. Didn't wingaard say the same? I spose in the old days blokes like that would just play local footy with their mates but these days the cash is too good to pass up.

I suppose it's a case of finding what you're good at, and getting paid as much as you can for it. Like the rest of us.

It just wasn't something I'd ever considered footballers would think. But it's probably completely fair enough.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
