Read an article on club website where Roos said "we feel that when Watts goes into the ruck, Jesse is often one out".

How long until the Weed is ready? Would Spencer be a better option? Leave Watts permanently up fwd....

Was thinking as much BBO, is he over his illness?

More inclined to give him another 1 year extension and delist Dawes come years end.

Thanks for your service, Grimes.

It looks pretty grim for him.  Ripper first game, poor second one and he is straight out.

Pretty good changes all round really.  Dawes doesn't excited me, but, I think we lacked that extra tall last week going forward.  It might help, but then again Dawes may once again do sweet FA and he just leaves us all shaking our heads.

Stretch and Neal-Bullen should provide good run for us on the larger ground this week, while Frost back in will be handy for our backline.

VDB - mystery injury of the week

Watched him close on the weekend and mention in the VDB thread...he looked cooked, never seen him so slow, was definitely injured.

Pity even with the concrete statue Dawes inclusion he'll still be one out & yes Spencer in would of allowed Watts to play 100% forward & Gawn to play 60% ruck 40% forward

Might be a big game from Dawes! He is certainly playing for his future.

Very inexperienced team but I don't mind putting the challenge to the likes of Stretch, Brayshw and ANB.

Not a Matt Jones fan as I simply don't trust his ability, but a fifth change was probably one too many and we already looked a bit one paced.

The main thing I want to see is the tackle count greatly improving. 14-3 tackles in forward 50 was another damning reflection on work rate. That needs to improve significantly if we are to have any chance. And if we jump them early and convert it on the scoreboard, we are a chance.

Might be a Paul Roos record for omissions this week. He's usually fairly restrained with changes but clearly he was fed up after the embarrassment last week.

Dawes though? Yuck, yuck, yuck.

All the media this week about his last year has set the scene, hasn't it?

I dont really get this if it is the case. Even if he comes out and kicks 20 goals in the last 6 weeks (im just as likely to do that from the ponsford stand) we know what he provides... and that is sweet FA. Different with a bloke like ANB who is young & should be given a run to prove his up to it. Dawes on the other hand, we know what we're going to get & it's not great

We all hope it is but he needs a body of work. 1 goal from his 4 matches this year, too late for mine. I'd like to see Spencer given a game, actually make that 6.

I really hate when Burgs refers to players as "ex-team".

"Former Magpie Ben Kennedy" last week.

"Ex-Power played Newton" this week.

It's not the first game of the pre-season ffs. They're DEMONS.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
