This looks like a good starting point to consider who we may be able to poach from opposition clubs on the cheap. With our good trading history with GWS,  and talk previously Tomlinson, maybe Dom and Thomas could have a word? What about Vardy from the cats? Anybody on this list worth chasing if the price is right?

Brad Crouch or Ben Lennon would be handy. Tomlinson has been killing them in the NEAFL playing as a tall midfielder. The guy's got a lot of talent.

Could Tomlinson be turned into a defender do you think? Seen him with GWS a few times and his set shots look a bit awkward like Frosty, not sure he should be brought in to play Pedo's role. Good endurance though and a very strong athletic type.

Not as quick as Hurley could be.

Aaron Black from the Roos could be worth a look in, if the price is right. Tomlinson and Crouch are the others that interest me, though Crouch doesn't really add much that we don't have.

I wouldn't pay overs for anyone on that list really. But if there's a chance of some cheap pick ups it's worth targeting positions we need. Mainly ruck, forward/ruck, tall defenders and half back ball users.

He's often injured but if the Cats don't want to play Nathan Vardy when fit then we could at least ask the question.

Jordan Murdoch is another talented player who could give us some speed at half back or on the wing, but he's probably a question mark about long term ability.

I'd think about Majak if he was free as a 2nd/3rd ruck.

I like the idea of trying 1 or maybe 2 mature recruits each year just to give them a fresh start in a new club and filling a need to see if they improve but we probably aren't as desperate as we have been the last few years. It's probably up to about 5 or so guys on the delistings bubble to show in the back half of the year they are worth one more year, and if they do then we might be heading more towards drafting kids this year.

With a clear run at it Crouch (Brad) will be a gun, can never have too many of those.

Tomlinson is an interesting one but from what I hear we didn't even talk to him over the last trade period. Carlton and another club that escapes me now were pretty keen on him though.

I don't understand the Tomlinson love. We have been linked to him for about 3 years now and I have kept an eye on him. There just isn't anything to get excited about in my opinion.

Matt Spangher seems like he's pretty handy to have around if we're looking to boost our premiership chances.

It will be the players not on that list that other clubs will look at.

Was this intended to come across as some secret note from a Cold War spy thriller?

It's the enigma code.

Saw a great movie on HBO a few nights back on that subject

superb!! :)

One who I like and think he could be a very solid tall defender is Ben Griffiths from the Tigers. He's not on that list, but I believe is out of contract at the end of the year. Has had some injury problems in the past but I reckon he has shown a fair bit when fit. He is also in the 24-25 yo bracket.

The Tigers really rate him internally, his training form is brilliant, he just can't translate it into games consistently yet, if we could get him and Macca and Goody could get him playing the way he trains he would be a massive bargain pickup, but i doubt he's going anyway.

I didn't even know crouch wasn't playing. I just assumed he was given the crows are going alright.

Crouch would be a ripper.

Precisely why he won't be available. For cheap at least. Along with a couple others on that list.

Let me rephrase....

There have been a number of posters on Demonland who have raised Tomlinson as a potential trade over the past 3 years.

My point is, he is ordinary and I dont see why people want him.

Don't rate Black at all. He's shown glimpses but they have been few and far between.

I really rate Ben Lennon, could get him fairly cheap, our coaching staff could weave their magic and turn him into something gold.

Also anyone who even mentions Ben Griffiths as a possible target, deserves a swift kick in the nuts. I'd rather pop someone like JKH in the ruck over that spud.

Um...new role, mid field, collected 50+ possessions last two weeks in the NEAFL. Boring!

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREGAME: West Coast

The Demons hit the road in Round 8, heading to Perth to face the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium. With momentum building, the Dees will be aiming for a third straight victory to keep their season revival on course. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
