I still can't get past a strange similarity to Buddy in his draft highlights. Just a couple passages in the first minute. I think it's the way he moves and holds his body.

Am I crazy?

Yes.

Nothing remotely similar to Buddy.

I remember when the last time the MFC drafted a Larke medalist who went on to get a rising star nomination. Here he is here:

Here's the other one:

It would be an interesting experiment that is impossible to do I know but if Cale was drafted tomorrow into our current development system I wonder how he might turn out? I suspect with the best development he might have been a valuable player. I always remember his first games and he looked the goods and then it all deteriorated from there. But I never believed he got much support at MFC, in fact I remember he wrote a letter about his training week one year where he seemed to be a lost soul, not knowing who his assistant coaches should be etc. in other words he was on his own. Sink or swim back then.

I'm a firm believer of the lack of development hindered a lot of players including Cale.

Then again, I think sports scientists have worked out what body types will make it and which ones will not.

So one team in an 18 team competition has 3 rising stars out of 9 awarded to date ....

And just won by 10 goals, with the youngest team on the park of the 18 fielded for the weekend

Ok.....Im going to keep my eye on that team!

And well done CP.. deserved!

I think he might be the closest to Ronald Dale we have seen.

Never watched RDB live, but that combination of strength, skill and judgement people speak of is what we see in CP

I had the pleasure of watching a fair bit of RDB31 as a kid....and being gob smacked every time he went near the ball.

If CP5 could play in 7 GFs in a row, winning 5, 8 GFs in 11 years winning 6, I would have to admit to being a very very happy man. ?

Hoping you can give the newbies here a quick summary Dr?

Don't want to open a can of rotten worms - I'll PM you.

just watched his presser you have to admire a kid of his age who can stand up and front the camera's and questioning for 5 minutes with out any qualms, he can "walk the walk" and "talk the talk" another great ambassador for our Mighty Club - Go Dee's and Go CP5!!

For those interested there is a good interview with Darren Bewick, his former coach at the Eastern Rangers regarding Christian on the SEN homepage. Under the Audio section.

He would have improved as much as Toumpas did with two years under the current development system.

Petracca's physical shape reminds me a lot of Leigh Matthews. A solid torso and tree-trunk legs made Matthews almost impossible to knock over. Petracca looks to have a similar shape. If he can be as successful as Matthews as a player (individually and with respect to team success) we're all going to be very happy.

Yes. He's more like Fyfe if anybody.

How about Wayne Carey then? Or is Oliver more like Wayne?

Dont see any Fyfe in him at all.

I see a strange and wonderful A.Jakovich-M.Ricciuto hybrid

I suspect that Cale may have struggled to develop physically even under our programme.......maybe could have bulked up at Essendon though.

didn't cale have an issue with food consumption as well, where he couldn't eat to the required level to put on the bulk required for afl-level body shape?

his first two years were pretty good from what i remember, but it was the lack of muscle and then a knee injury that hurt his third year pre-season big time.

Clarry and Carey. Similar names. But I suppose on reflection Oliver is more in the Mathew Bate mould.

I very much prefer Oliver's turning circle (or lack there of..). And his much quicker reaction time.

Wonder how many pirouettes Oliver could pull off in the time it took Matty to get onto his preferred foot?

Haha that is gold. Now he has broken into the side hopefully he stops pestering Roosy and turns his attention to Hogan with his 70 txt's a day.

"Have you signed yet?

"Have you signed yet"

Hogan was quoted in an article today as saying Petrac is 'the most explosive player he has ever seen'.

Love it.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
