Id love if the Spencil came in, with two cult figure ruckmen in the squad we will win by 150

Newton was playing Sandy and Bugg was playing a team which is in the best two or three in the AFL.

A substantial difference I would suggest.

IMHO Newton is like Michie both are Good at VFL level but struggle at the top.

Neither would get a game at the top six clubs.

I would agree that VFL is certainly a step down from the AFL but the apparent knock on Newton ( i say apparent as it was mentioned on Demonland) was his defensive side of his game and 18 tackles shows his willingness to do the hard things.

I think Newton has a few more tricks than Michie but you are right in that the jury is certainly out on both of them.

I'd say Grimes for Jetta but hasn't Grimes been playing a half forward/wing role at casey ? Hardly doubt he'll be bought in to fill Jettas role.

I'd day Salem to go back into his half back spot for Jetta and ANB in to take Salems spot in the midfield. If Kent is fit who does he replace ?

Take your pick there were plenty of ordinary forwards last week.

Out: Jetta, Mitchie, Garland
In: Omac, ANB,/Kent, Dunn

B: Wagner    Dunn    Omac

HB: Bugg    Tmac    Vince

C: Petracca   Jones   Hunt

HF: Salem    Watts   Garlett

F: Kent/ANB   Hogan   Harmes

Foll: Gawn   Viney  Tyson

I/c: Stretch Oliver Kennedy Pedo

Would love Bugg to play down back to send Salem onto the wing hopefully sending accurate long kicks into our forward line and send Hunt on the wing to receive handballs from Jones, Viney and so on and really use his pace which I think we can lack sometimes when we do get the clearance instead of just always booting the ball into the forward line for a 50/50 contest. Would love a beautiful centre clearance and a beautiful kick into the chest of one of our forwards.

Newton for Michie?  Hmmm which type of Parsley garnish would I prefer?

Indeed.  Foot soldier yo-yo is for when you're losing by 60+ every week and they're getting massacred.

Someone to play for Jetta, and perhaps OMac for Garland, and that's it for mine.

H and Kent are automatic best 22 if it, so with Jetta out and those two possibly in it may just save a few other blokes.

Best guess now would be:

IN: Lumumba, ANB, Dunn

OUT: Jetta, Garland, Wagner

Just guessing only one out of H and Kent will be right to go.

Garnish suggests some sort of extraneous flourish on top. This is more like deciding between a soup or dessert spoon to eat your weetbix with.

Given the Jetta suspension & pending H and Kent's fitness.

IN: Kent, Lumumba, Neal-Bullen

OUT: Bugg, Michie, Jetta (susp)

FB: Wagner, Garland, Salem

HB: Lumumba, T. McDonald, Vince

C: Tyson, N. Jones, Kennedy

HF: Harmes, Hogan, Kent

FF: Watts, Pedersen, Garlett

FOLL: Gawn, Oliver, Viney

INT: Hunt, Neal-Bullen, Petracca, Stretch

Bugg the non playing emergency. Spencer & Dunn other emergencies named.

Michie & Grimes to potentially come into the squad of 25 depending on the fitness of the two i mentioned at the start.

In: Grimes

Out: Jetta

I'd like to see Trengove get a run sooner rather than later too. Maybe against Geelong to sling tackle Dangerfield!

I suspect Bugg, like H, is a favourite of Roos, largely because of his contested work.

Would be very surprised if he was dropped.

grimes has had years and years playing as a backman. the fact he's played a bit of midfield this year doesn't negate all the backline experience

whether he is the best replacement for jetta is another issue.....he's certainly done well at vfl level and has been emergency a no. of times

If ANB can rack up 39 disposals against Sandy, he may well break the 50 barrier against the Lions :-)

It seems to me that each defeat we have had there has been some admission that there were mistakes made at the selection table. last week it looked as if we lacked a bit of height down back in defence as well as a bit of leg speed and nous to know where to place our diamond. The thing last week with our Diamond Defence was that there seemed to be a big hole in the middle of the 4 men that the doggies found time and again.

This week against the Lions I think we need to look to go back to the basics at the selection table. that is not to say go back to the tried and not so rue anymore. In defence, have a look at getting a couple of talls in there to handle the main forwards, add a third versatile mid/tall and then a shut down small and a couple of attacking HBFs. Jetta is out so bring in either Dunn, Frost or OMac so we have the extra tall we need to have back there. retain garland and have him as the third point of the diamond defence on the third tall if there is one. the fourth point of the diamond defence is the shut down defender. a role I would give to Bugg. Running HBfs? well I would be getting rid of either Wagner or Hunt for this game, most likely Wagner. in my view of the game last week he was weak with his kicking. The point he kicked sticks in the mind.Vince or Salem to be back there maybe?

In the forwards I would look to bring back Kent if he is fit.

Midfield is pretty settled and hard to get into but I would find a spot for ANB at least and maybe Newton. I would consider Newton a long shot for a game in the seniors as I think they will give him one more run around at Casey. Same with Trengove.

My team for next week.
B: Garland, T McDonald, Bugg
HB: Salem, O McDonald, Hunt
C: Vince, Tyson, Oliver
HF: Watts, Pedersen, Kent
F: Harmes, Hogan, Garlett
FOLL:  Gawn, N Jones, Viney
I/C: Petracca, ANB, Stretch, Kennedy/Newton
EMG: Kennedy/Newton

The obvious out Jetta. Grimes to come in, but not necessarily as a direct replacement for Jetta.

Garland looked slow, although the doggies made us all look slow. Lumumba to come in.

Roos post match even thought we may have brought Oliver back a bit early, so reading between the lines he maybe the one to make way for ANB

I wouldn't like to do any more than 3 changes.

Close. I agree with your outs but I would have Kent, ANB (who i watched at sandy last week and he smashed it) and either Dunn/omac

newton next in line but with interrupted preseason probably need one or two more at vfl level

Now that we have a better idea with injuries etc, I reckon the changes will be:

N: ANB, Kent, Dunn
OUT: Jetta (susp), Michie, Garland

I'd seriously consider giving OMac a run but other than that i agree.

Stuie,

You have effectively dropped 3 from the backline and replaced with 1 backliner.

We have a real problem with the backline. Who do you think will line up in the back 6?

I'd have the back 6 as TMac, Dunn, Salem, Vince (rotating with Bugg), Wagner, Hunt.

Quite like the balance of that CHF

Perhaps my only change would be Oliver out Newton in.

I just get the feeling Roos wants to rest Oliver more.
