2015 dees are back!

Well this is disappointing. 

 

Whately and McLure absolutely savaged us on 774 during the third quarter. Seems like we were just downhill skiing and leaving loose men in their forward line (Riewoldt!) even from stoppages. What is going on? Sounds like we were soundly beaten in the coaches box today.

We came out all guns blazing in the first with frenetic pressure and running. Surely we didn't just tire ourselves out? Saints are a young side so no excuses there.

They are a pacey side and especially at Etihad- the decision to keep both Frost and Pedersen and leave out Oliver or ANB was extremely costly.

At least Paul Roos will have plenty of material to analyse in the  'areas where we could improve ' category

We could be Freo, Richmond or Port.

 

At least nobody expected us to be any good.

Joeboy can cut his analysis down to one word for 75% of the players today.  Shite

Young side who look very, very tired, one too many tall blokes, too many players who should be better and have gone missing (Tyson, Garlett, Lumumba) and a ground we play very poorly (note how often St Kilda have basically hit the wing boundary and then spread back across and opened us back up).

We have some good players but they are inexperienced. We also rely on them a lot for speed so on a track like this when they are down we could never win. They'll learn from this, as will our coaching staff. Too many young players can't come up week after week. 

Lets not get all dramatic. It's a tough competition and we will continue moving in the right direction.

Who does Tom think he is?

I caught myself accidentally singing the Saints song in the shower this morning. Apologies. I'm pretty sure this loss is my fault.

How good is the AFL

Love having a home game at the oppositions home ground under a roof when its sunny and 23C outside. 
 

Pretty much everything thats wrong with footy.

And dont tell me its contracts or whatever. Thats my bloody point.

Yes. We did. That is still the midfield that got smashed by top ups and first year Essendon players. I always go back to that, and today, I see why. Viney and Jones have been good, but they have had no support, at least when the game was in the balance. The decision not to play Oliver wasn't a great one either. Mostly St Kilda smashed us on the rebound out of the backline though, so that is a real worry. The game looked like a training drill for them at times.

The words passing his lips didn't set off a cosmic chain of events that caused us to lose.
However, wouldn't it be wiser to be thinking about getting over a team we haven't beaten the last 13 time we've played them rather than speculating about events 15 weeks from now? Also, wouldn't it be smarter to not give the oppo any ammunition to get up? Those comments say to me that we aren't really thinking about our number opposite and are looking forward to September based on our current output. If that were me, those comments would pizz me off!

The greatest defender ever of course.  Oh and the greatest kick in the game. 

Oh well.  Disappointing loss but we are to expect that with this side until we mature and find that consistency.  We are just as likely to come out and roll GC next week.

One thing that this game does is show us all that we are still very much a middle of the road side who will win some and lose some.  Finals was always out of reach.

Hogan is a gun.  Those who, in the Hogan thread, tried to make a claim we would be okay without him are kidding themselves.

Onwards and upwards boys.  There is always next week.

Theyve been told to put pressure on the ball carrier. It is literally their game plan. The idea being that someone else will cover the guy youve left. Of course you just end up as the piggy in the middle. Terrible defensive game plan

Worst defending I've seen from any team this year. 

The worst part about it is that's exactly how the Saints played against Port, their ins and outs suggested that's how'd they'd play this week, and then we come out and play like Port to top it all off. 

How there was no plan B half way through the 2nd quarter boggles the mind. 

2 even teams in terms of developing, one absolutely smashed in the coaching box.

Boo hoo, a good footy team plays good football anywhere at anytime. Interstate teams have to travel every 2nd week, yet they still manage to rise up the ladder.

Loved how all and sundry at the club (including the playing group) urge Dees fans to show up, yet they have the gaul to not turn up themselves.

When Daisy Pearce mentioned his debut in the pre-game formalities I had flashbacks to Nick McCallum doing the same at Watts' debut.

If they were tired with the short break, something plenty of posters here raised during the week, how the hell did the selectors not see fit to make changes? Wagner and Hunt were never going to keep up great form for extended patches, adding a zero gamer to that list was a disaster in the end.

We desperately needed Oliver and, frankly, he deserved a spot in the team more than Petracca (as did several others, to be honest). If Petracca got given his first game because we wanted to attract a larger crowd to Shitihad, it was a shameful decision.

Thats exactly what it was. It was teh plan from a fortnight out i would say. had merit as long as petracca earnt the spot. not sure he earnt it over oliver but he was showing form . naive to think the decision wasnt part marketing.
