Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Who's to say West Coast aren't a viable alternative to Fremantle for Hulky?

Anyway, I didn't realise Collingwood were next week (I never imagined we'd play them twice in the space of 7 rounds), but if the media pressure on the Pies this week is as great as it was against Essendon's embarrassing 100pt loss to the Saints last year (which was followed up by a typical Melbourne embarrassment), we better be ready for a fight next week. We seem to fair horribly against teams who face scrutiny then have something to prove.

For the same reason I'm desperately concerned if Richmond get flogged by West Coast on Friday night, right before our Anzac Eve match. They will almost certainly face us in round 5 at 1-3. That Richmond haven't defeated us once in the Roos era is cause for optimism though (the only team that holds this honour).

Be a very crowded forward line with Darling and Kennedy. I don't think they need him in the short term like Fremantle do.

Went to Adelaide Richmond game with a couple of Crows mates.

Points I noted:

Adelaide have a group that can really kick - accurate and huge penetration.

They are hard tacklers as well.

Tiges aren't very good. Haven't progressed from last few years. Lots of bludgers who don't work hard enough when they haven't got the ball. Grigg is a classic example.

How Hoolie got in the best players I am staggered. He is a turnover King. Must have cost then 6 or 7 goals.

Cotchin almost as bad.

We should continue our hoodoo over them if we put pressure on the ball carrier and block the corridor. Crows did this to perfection and Tiges rapidly ran out of ideas.

The Tiggers crumble is you pressure them.  They only look good if teams zone off and let them play.  We do so well against them because Roos (And Neeld before him) wanted the team to play tight competitive football and shut down the game.  If we show up to play against them, hit them hard in the tackles and as you say put pressure on the ball and corridor they will fall apart again.

last year, statistically, they were right up for de%.

that's what happens when you have about three or four blokes who kick it upwards of 20 times a game go sideways by 15-20m to direct targets - improves the overall percentage.

that they're trying to re-tool troy chaplin into a third tall forward says a lot about where they're at at the moment.

Ha, my Magpie mates at our local cricket club were carrying on about top four this year; how great it was to get Howe and how little they paid to get him viz Kennedy and generally how fantastic their midfield was going to be.  I think they may have gone a tad early.

Ha, ha - my husband said top 2!!

An enjoyable distraction for you, Jane02, when things aren't going well for us. After all more was expected of them pre-season, so we still get to laugh at the Pies supporters too.

Bad day of footy, we lose by a kick and the flicking Hawks win by a kick and Murphy goes down! If there was a god, this would not happen!

We like to peruse others' thoughts and observations on the non-Dees games during the round.  I know there was a non-Dees discussion thread that had been floating around that has covered the first two rounds, but I thought it might be easier to focus on each round in a new thread.

Hey Maple ... are you doing a thread for round 4 or do we use this one?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to our game of course but tonight could be interesting (West Coast vs Rich) along with a few other notable encounters ... Adel/Syd Sat night,  North/Freo (Sun Twilight) & the early game on Sunday (GWS/Port)

The Hawks/Saints match might be a decent game if St Kilda can play as well as they played last week.  The free-to-air games on Saturday are a bit dodgy though ... I can see a couple of big wins to the Cats & Doggies.

Was just about to set one up. Must have read my mind.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
