Watts wants to stay but will explore free agency.

Article of AFL app states Watts was keen to be part of Melbourne's future but wants to explore his free agency options. Here's an idea, try performing consistently for, I don't know let's say 3 games in a row. Sorry Jumbo but Watts your free to go, you can take Grimes and Garland with you. Then and only then will the list be fully turned over.

The intent he's showed in the first two practice games is a minimum benchmark for Watts.

I think he'll have a cracker year, re-sign and ultimately be a one club player.

And who do you intend of replacing them with?

Such click bait, reading the article says more about him wanting to stay at Melbourne. Typical whirlwind in a tea cup when it comes to everyone's favourite whipping boy

This is how the thread should have kicked off.

I think he's finally turned the corner.  Could actually really blossom this yer if his efforts to date are indicative. As the 3rd tall fwd  he could be quite dangerous.. He's smart. ...and can kick...Good assets.  Time will tell I suppose.  Was a nothing article really. Of course most would "look"...meh

"But with the way Melbourne are looking at the moment, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else to be honest."

Fellow forward Jesse Hogan has delayed contract talks with Melbourne until the end of 2016, despite two-years still left to run on his current deal.

Watts was unsure whether he too would join Hogan in holding off negotiations but said his immediate priority was focusing on his on-field performances.

"I haven't really thought about that to be honest," he said.

"I'll let it play out. I wouldn't mind playing some reasonable footy first and then speak to the club and get something sorted hopefully."

Why it's taken the club this long to play him as a forward is almost unfathomable.

He only stays at the MFC if he earns the right to, if he leaves, probably means we don't want him.

Im trying to think what more Jack could do at the moment to shut down the incessant 'but he's not the messiah' moaning....

Nope... can't think of it.....

I hope your right McQ.  I hope your right.

so far watts hasn't performed in past seasons.  he is talented but has to show desire for the contest & the clubs new values.

& to show he can cut it, under the pump.

there are many here which like this part,  or that bit if his game,  but this club needs all of him firing 100% for the footy.

Nothing in it.  Mentions he will look at all options but is pretty clear about his intent and desire to remain with the club.

Good on him too.  Tom McDonald should take some notes about that kind of loyalty when in a contract year.  Get behind the club son, you won't regret it!

you mean play him again as a forward ?  I agree

Looking forward to  Watts Hogan Jeffy  Kent eventually  Pertracca  and perhaps Frost as  2nd tall fwd  as a good fwd 6 combo but and Ive been on his back for years , but  Jack could well be an absolute gem amongst those jewels.   For so long  his leads and positions have been ignored but just possibly he's now earning that ultimate respect of his team and theyll be honoured.

Could be interesting :)

Have criticised him a lot in the past and I'm at the stage where I've accepted he'll never be the game changer I wanted him and expected him to be with the hype that surrounded him.

Contributed really well on the weekend and whilst there'll continue to be aspects of his game that I'll wince at, he could be a really handy and versatile third tall this year and down the track when Weideman is ready. Hogan, Weideman, Watts and Petracca could be the fab four with Garlett and Kent eating crumbs down the track. They need to play a lot together and form a bond. But it could be special.

Hoping he has a really strong year in the forward-line and hits the scoreboard hard.

I believe he can.

Surely if the club can offer Garland 3 years then Watts deserves to get signed up as well?

One thing Watts can't be criticised for is his love of the club. I have never seen a happier player after a win and I have heard in several interviews how Jack contributes to morale - is always upbeat and lightens the atmosphere around the place. I think he is highly likely to stay if offered a reasonable deal.

I think Jack has smartened up some.  If he has any sense ( and I think he has much ) he'll  be head down bum up , as hard at it in terms of effort  and probably look to a new sheet of paper before mid season. He'll be a Demon only and looked favourably upon in years to come.

Its up to him but his displayed efforts this year to date indicate he's worked ot what he is going to do, and good luck to him.  Hopefully we dont revisit the darker days.

The problem with this comparison - is the coach/recruiting staff/media and us supporters all have very different ideas on the value of players and trying to compare what one gets compared to another may leave you scratching your head.

Here's an idea, try reading and digesting the entire article before making a half-arsed statement.

There is more in the piece about him wanting to stay than him wanting to go.

Just when it would appear they have found a position his skillset suits you would see him go, and after he says he is looking to string some decent games together rather than worry about contract negotiations.

As Jesus said to the cured leper in Life of Brian  " There's no pleasing some people ".

Has McDonald said anything about his contract situation WB?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
