Tom McDonald (and Oscar) SIGNS.

Sydney makes sense and given that Richards and Grundy are nearly done have a need. They have always sourced their key position players from other clubs. Surely they don't have that much money in their cap to throw squllions at Tom??

The AFL site had a live chat on trade targets today.  According to whoever the journo was Sydney are putting a pretty big offer in front of TMac.  Interesting.

Well that's the reason he is yet too sign...

might as well be a free agent.

Change the record, pf.

Without McDonald and barring a replacement, our defence is left with a gaping hole. He's definitely a required player and is a good defender, just needs to string together some more consistent form. He's still very young.

I agree but if he does go and I hope he doesn't at least Reid can play key position

Reid can't get on the park '11', if the Swans thought he was any good to them they wouldn't need to chase Tommy Mac.

And can't even get a game for just about the leakiest defence in the league. What does that tell you?

Response to a question regarding Swans defence below... No mention of big money by Nick Bowen

"Hi Az, Swans actively looking for a key back and understand Tom McDonald is in their sights. Dees are confident of keeping him but given Swans' trading record you never know. Tom Harley has previously said the club is not pursuing Michael Hurley"

If he goes and Hurley is available, package a 1st rounder that we'd get for TMac plus our 2017 1st for Hurley. Essendon won't turn that down if Hurley wants to come to us.

The reality is TMac never takes the first or simple option. Someone needs to put their arm around him and say take the first option, no slow motion side steps, no risky switches just keep it simple. Has all the ability but needs to understand what he can do. He is so worried about turnovers that he holds the ball too long waiting for ideal option then trys to hit that option under pressure, He needs to trust his teammates to win the next contest and just give the first option every time. Its not a complicated problem. Some games he does it then others he just seems to forget.

I think it is time to leave the "taking the game on" to Wagner, Hunt, Bernie and when he is back Salem. They have the skills/attributes to back it up. We need a team that takes the game on that doesnt mean that all 22 players need to close there eyes and run into trouble. Some need to be able to just play to their ability. He cops alot but OMac is doing that very well, first option, simple kicks. He is showing more footy smarts than his brother right now.

Funny Wagner doesn't cop the same knocks. I reckon he's good for at least one howler a game himself.

Yes i know. But are we going to get a big bodied defender in return if he goes?

Not a chance

screwed again.

How exactly are we screwed. Do you believe that the MFC is the only club that have players coming out of contract that are attracting interest from other clubs ? Every club faces this same issue so the MFC, like every other club, has to deal with it. We make him an offer which he accepts or he doesn't. I would suspect that if he wants to move on or the MFC has little desire to keep him for the $'s he is asking or the MFC think they can get a better player for him in a trade then the MFC would get a couple of other clubs interested so you can get some "competitive tension" and therefore get the best deal for our club. We are not "screwed" at all. We are just dealing with the same reality that every club in the league faces.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
