Demons in National Women's League

wouldn't be much overlap given the short duration and time of year for women's competition. suspect roosy would be in the us most of winter

I wasn't thinking he would have an active role during the men's season for game plan, weekly selection etc.

I was thinking his greatest benefit would be list management, trading and recruiting.   So he would be needed only occasionally in season and Sept/Oct which leads into the women's 'preseason' (they're playing season is Feb/March).  This still gives him Apr to August for the time he wants in Hawaii/USA.

Was also thinking it would be terrific for fans and sponsors to have him still involved.

i didn't think there wouldn't be some benefits from it, just wouldn't expect it to be more than minor. some is better than none however

Dil will be looking to get the highest profile player into the highest profile team. He would do what ever he could to have her where he wants her, which may not be where she wants to be.

Couldn't happen.

Nah, no way. Isn't she our nominated marquee player?

Hasn't been announced yet, and never say never when the AFL is concerned. Some amazing new rule or loophole may pop up and take her from our grasp if the AFL deemed it to be so.

Good thing Daisy has stood up to them and told them where they can shove that idea, and don't think the idea wouldn't have crossed the brains trust at the AFL.

They will be praying for either carlton or colonwood to win the first "flag" no doubt.

Better for the finances and all that.

Wouldn't surprise me if a certain president has been having words with Gill about getting Daisy as well, and Gil being the puppet he is may well fall for it.

It would be hard to conceal any bias, when she has already been the captain of the first ever women's side, for us.

Simply must play for us. Fat eddie can gagf. So can dill the dweeb for that matter.

Daisy put to bed any thoughts they may or may not have been having. She will play for us, there is no way around it now. I think she caught Gill off guard a bit though, was great to watch.

Daisy is on record. I'll play as a Demon or I don't play at all.

Not too many ways of interpretation available ^_^

Was just reading that Roos interested in being the coach of the womans side! Anything we can do to keep him around the club would be a massive win I reckon. Might have to pay him a tad less than he is on now though.

A succession plan. Triple premiership captain Daisy Pearce takes over from triple premiership coach Paul Roos for the 2020 season.

We have quite a bit of talent and it is a joy to see young players being rewarded with rising star nominations, our 'older' players (Hickey and Pearce) doing well, newcomers like Alyssa Misfud be exciting and familiar Demon names of ole taking the field again (Harriet Cordner).

I had hopes that our team would form a 10 year dynasty and have some real success together.  But then I saw this article which says all players (including 'marquis' players) are 'up for grabs' at the end of this year as all contracts were for just one year.  http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/aflw/aflw-stars-and-marquees-up-for-grabs-for-season-2018/news-story/22ddffb4e14694b7c6cb0e793882cf15

I don't really like that system as a club could virtually lose the core of their team in one season made worse this year as it is the first season and teams are only just beginning to gel.

Don't know about everyone else but I'm getting quite attached to our players.  I just hope that our players want to stick with the might Dees!

Thanks for that article LH. I was wondering how long the contracts were for. Not sure if we can start signing required players up now. You would imagine most players staying at their respective clubs perhaps aside from GWS who have a few ring ins.

At the least you would want confirmation from the core group that they will stay. In my book the least likely to leave; O'dea closely followed by Daisy.

Bump.

The effect on the local Womens and Girls leagues up here in Canberra is double the amount of players at training then at the same point last year...

One of my best mates who for way of background is Asian and an Essendon supporter. He would have gone to 2 games in the last 10 years both of them Melb v Essendon with me.

He called me today and said his 5 year old niece has asked him if he would take her to the womens footy this weekend.

Make no mistake this women's footy is taking off and we are the founders.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
