In 2019 my partner and I were travelling from Brisbane to Minjerribah (Stradbroke Island, Qld). via ferry. A fit and very tall young man travelling on the ferry with his mum and younger brother (he was tall too) had a Surfers Paradise Demons guernsey on. At some point he was standing near me on the almost hour-long ferry ride, I said it was good to see a mighty Demons jumper. The young man nonchalantly said 'my dad played a few games for the Dees'. I looked closely at him and realised Jeff White was his father.  He was a very humble and well-mannered young man; as were his mother and brother. I wished him well with his footy.  I hope he joins the Mighty Dees in 2025.  Go Dees!

Kudos to First Dog on the Moon too (I am not a shareholder in his business either):

Best post in the thread.

Agree. There is a lot at stake and it's not just Kalani. If we can get Kalani to nominate us then we likely will get 1st dibs on his twin brothers.

The club would be very aware of this.

Hope GC make the 8 next year as they can only nominate 2 players if that happens. They already have 2 likely mid type 1st rounders. They also have a stack of talls.

Couldn’t do worse than some of the representation we have had lately.

You could also have a ping at them for disallowing the Samoan kid, Tairon Ah-Mu as a Demon NGA. Discrimination works kinda

8?! Viney, Woewodin and Brown are on the 2025 list. Who else am I missing?

No you're right, I exaggerated for effect. Although we can double that if we go for White, Yze and whoever else is coming up to 18 y.o.

Bring him down to the G for Anzac Eve and Kings Birthday, big crowds marquee games which you won’t get at Metricon

Yep.

And make sure not bring him down for a mid season game against freo at the G.

I await the inevitable AFL rule change to stop us getting him, or to wipe out the rest of our picks if we select him.

Jason Taylor was asked about Kalani White yesterday in his interview on "Gettables".

He said Kalani will be part of the Australian Squad and that he is developing well.

Maybe not but something tells me we are confident he will nominate us given we’ve traded next years first pick away - hopefully that’s right

The AFL already has with the new draft points system!

The only 2025 pick with points we currently hold is our own 2nd round pick.  (The Lions 3rd round pick will be pushed beyond the points value.  Fourth round picks no longer carry points).

Not concerned as there may well be player trades (or future pick swaps) to get the points but if Kalani goes early we won't have much, if any draft currency left.

Worst case scenario is if GCS really want him and bid on him early to force us to pay top price or they get him ...

...it wouldn't be in the spirit of F/S but I've never considered Hardwick to be a fair player.

He is definitely good enough to be drafted based on underage form for a key tall.

Whether he ends up a first round pick will depend on his form next year. Often key talls don't really come into top contention until the year of their draft.

Worth noting that there are already a number of highly rated talls for next year. Inevitable that some will drop off and others will rise, but the early buzz on Ludowyke, Duff-Tyler & Emmett probably helps our cause.

The mail I have, from someone who knows a bit about this guy reckons he is taller than his dad and might make the 7 foot mark😎 Also went on to say his agility for a tall is remarkable. JUST MAKE SURE GOLD COAST Franchise keep their grubby hands of him!!

Would be a nice first.

Quick search suggests there has never been a 7ft AFL player. (213cm)

Tallest are Mason Cox and three other players at 6ft 11 (211cm)

https://www.topendsports.com/sport/afl/anthropometry-tallest.htm

Hopefully he’s better than that Cox - [censored] on a bull springs to mind

He's presently at best 200cm.  How on earth is he going to get to 213cm ?

Picket, you should give yourself an uppercut, but you'd miss.

Doesn't GC have a few academy kids coming through next year; and may struggle to get all of them; particularly with the restructuring of the points/bidding.

He may just find it easier to nominate Melbourne if he wants to avoid the randomness of the draft.

This is a post from a St Kilda supporter on another forum re Kalani:

''Had a bit do to with them down on the coast and I'm 99% certain if there was a choice to be made, he would be off to the D's.

However, I would be surprised if either club made a play for him. He is not particularly good, and the continued selection in various elite programs does nothing to dispel the claims of nepotism for kids involved in northern academies who have fathers from southern clubs.

Talls can develop at different rates though, and there is definitely something there - but he is miles off it currently. Barely got a kick in local u19s this year.''

It's just one person's opinion, but it's good to hear a view from someone with no skin in the game.

Let's hope he keeps improving.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th December 2024

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
