I hope they trial him as a forward/ruck this year as well... could really boost his draft stocks if he can dominate in that role.

it will be interesting to see

he wants to be a forward / ruck, judging from the comments by jeff this morn

Well with Max a year older than Witts and with Ned Moyle also at GC and only Verrall at Dees, his chances of that are much better with us.

Plus a young Ethan Read. Jed Walter. Ben King. He would be miles back at GC

I’d think that if Jeff’s boy is likely to us we’d like to know a year out so we don’t spend our pick 9 use on Armstrong… when Kalani is eyeing that tall forward ruck role over a similar timespan…

Yes forgot Read, the other two are just forwards.

He would have Moyle and Read ahead of him after Witts goes, who is a year younger than Max  and maybe playing longer than Max.

Surely he would see us as a better option if he is prepared to leave home.

I'd be pitching a hybrid first year. Play in Qld in the local league using a pre-agreed training regime and then play for Casey say four times on a fifo basis.

Let's be honest he's probably not playing AFL until year 3.

We also have to realise he can go to GCS and then trade out in year 3 if he's not seeing a clear path.

Have to play this one smart

So you're going to pitch living in a share house and playing at Casey against the Gold Coast and the family.

He has a choice unlike most players

one of the craziest notions imaginable

you want him as part of the program, not removed from it

I'd be pitching g to get Jeff White down to Melbourne, so that  he doesn't have to move away from family!°

The Demons are looking for a ruck coach.

Why not give Jeff White the job so he can move back down to Melbourne?

I think the pitch is pretty simple, he's much MUCH more likely to get a game consistently with us than he is to displace Walter, King or Andrew out of the forward line at the Suns.

If he wants limited opportunities at a plastic club and to pass up on an opportunity to play for his father's club on the G for the club he grew up supporting, I doubt any of us will lose an ounce of sleep over it.

How does he even qualify for the Gold Coast Academy program given he's neither indigenous or African?  Oh, Gold Coast. Cynicism mode disengaged.

Northern state academies are open to anyone not based on ethnicity like NGA.

Love the outside the box thinking, but teams aren’t giving up the chance to develop players in a full time environment. Especially when the best alternative for him to get proper development would be at the Suns VFL program. It’s not like he’s a Victorian who could be hooked in to Port Melbourne.

Maybe he could train at pokies FC but in reality the kid will be keen to start his professional career, just has a choice to make where.

We should offer flexibility to go home through the season and other ways to keep the family engaged/ happy tho. So I don’t mind outside the box, just not sure you’ve nailed it yet.

Yes but you need to take into account the family situation with Kalani’s mother and brothers still living on the Gold Coast and perhaps not so inclined to move down to Melbourne.

But apparently NGA’s in the non northern states are not open to members of the Samoan community. Eg Ah Mu

Have been reading through a GC Suns Forum and it's interesting to read that KW is not rated particularly highly at all by those who follow the junior teams up there.  Most attributing his selections to name, height and 'favours'.

If these reports are anything to go by, there are much more promising prospects for the Suns to choose from in their academy next year.

Exactly my point.  I did know that, my post was aiming for the facetious.  Them bleating about how unfair the advantage Victorian clubs get over interstate clubs is ridiculous when they can't see past their own noses.  That's why I'm still incredibly angry about the whole Mac Andrew farce.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
