I would have gone to Casey Fields today but for the fact that I've come back from overseas with a cold so I gave it a miss. I prefer to be fit and ready for the season proper than to dally around with pre season training.

Anyhow, would appreciate reports. I think some of our best training reports have come from Casey locals in the past so here's hoping for high standards again n 2016.

Get better soon, Sniffling Jack. And thanks for keeping your germs away from our players.

Playing basketball in the cold WJ?! I thought you were a professional...

Girlfriend got down there for her first training session after I successfully convinced her over the xmas break to change from the Saints to the Dees.
She's still learning all the players, but she took some great snaps! I will upload them at some stage this afternoon!

Here are some pics from todays session ! I reckon my gf did a pretty good job, considering 1. She's never been to a training session in her life and 2. She's not a photographer.

Enjoy guys!

Apparantly TimD and Alotta got to training but sadly can't post a report.  Good session from all accounts.

There's a report on the Melbourne Board at BF.

Read it and honestly thought it was the biggest load of tripe with the occasional players name mentioned.. other then that half of it i couldn't even understand wtf he was talking about. Is he trying to be the next Tasman because he failed awfully.

Got down for a look and was impressed at what was on display. No good at these things but since there's no reports so far I'll try put a few things down.

I was about 20 min late and walked into a fast paced ball movement/decision making drill. I try get to a few training sessions each pre season and haven't seen this before. I should mention that Goodwin and McCarthy were running training and I didn't see Roo's all day. It was play on at all cost with sharp decisions which were generally hitting there targets. It was a great drill cause not only was it teaching the boys about ball movement it was teaching the defending group about guarding space or when to fully commit to the ball carrier.

A couple of other notes from today.

- I'm a Kent fan and he was running the boundary and he's a beast. Big thighs, thick through his chest. If fully fit come round 1 should be in starting 22.

- they did simply things like goal kicking for 10 min. Garlett was doing dribble kicks, Hogan leading and marking, mid field clearance work. Backs intercept marking. Rucks tap work then tackle and spread. It was just the little things but to be honest things we need to make instinct and not stop and think oh yeah I need to be doing this.

- loved the banter in the goal kicking. Gawn most vocal and pretty funny. Watts had a bit to say and you can see his very well liked by the boys.

- running drill at the end was 2 sets of  10 x 100m sprints. Getting to the last couple you could see a few boys struggle then    McCarthy yells out "talk and help each other through" to which a few boys piped up. Gus was struggling and Watts was tapping him on the back until the last one Watts almost run the last with his arm around Gus's waist encouraging/helping him through. They crossed the line and the two embraced for a while, nice touch.

- Track said its a small fracture and not as bad as first thought, said media made it bigger than it is.

- The team is looking big as in height and size. At one stage midfield was Vanders, Gus, Tyson and Gawn. I could only think that it would be a little imposing with the size.

I've been writing this for over an hour and can't recall what I've said but that's what happens with 3 kids. Hope someone can take a little from this. Cheers

My Mrs made the switch from St Kilda to MFC as well. Good move.

Cheers for the pics also. Great to see the lads in action.

Cheers for the update DeePicks,

Kent is the one I'm most excited about this year, also hopeful that Salem takes a big leap forward.

Salem did stand out a bit today. Used through the middle in full ground drills and puts the footy where the player should be and not necessarily where there running. Hope it's a big year for him.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
