Melbourne might well have been denied access to a top up player after losing Jake Melksham for 2016 but it will get eight of them from the Casey Scorpions for Friday's practice match at Casey Fields.

The top ups are Conner Ambler, Aaron Cottee, James Freeman, Jake Lovett, Jordan Moncrieff, James Munro, Angus Scott and Kody Wilson.

The game starts at 9.45am.

That Moncrieff name rings a bell

The Casey Scorpions have signed Beaconsfield twins Damien and Daniel Johnston who both played representative football with the SENFL this year.

Or as they will affectionately be called  - "the Hanson twins"

(slapshot - now there was a movie !)

Son of Michael Moncrieff who was recruited from Edithvale-Aspendale by the Hawks in 1971 and was a prolific goalkicker, topping their goalkicking on five occasions. He was one of a number of players (including Leigh and Kelvin Matthews) who came from that part of the Mornington Peninsula Football League which later became Melbourne's zone. Sadly for us, we missed out on some true champions of the game by a couple of years.

The gap between the start of the AFL season and the start of the VFL season is becoming a problem. Now that we've started the NAB Challenge matches it would be handy for those who don't make the cut to have a practice game at VFL level but unfortunately, that option doesn't become available until NAB3.

I appreciate that they can do simulated match play at training but there's no Casey game this weekend so the likes of Jack Trengove and Christian Petracca can be eased in with say half a game at that level. As I said above, it would have been handy.

Not sure why Casey couldn't have a practice game however if we used it to get some of our players fit with match practice how are they intended to get their own list match fit?

We're only talking about 8 - 10 MFC players at most who aren't involved in the NAB Challenge game and aren't injured. That still leaves around 40 Casey players who can be used across senior and reserves practice matches.

Then they should let the eight to ten MFC players play with the Casey Development team against their firsts in a practice match to even it up a bit.

So will Petracca play this Saturday at Casey? Might be worth a look!!

From what we've read, neither Petracca nor Trengove will be playing any games anywhere until they have a really solid block of full training under their belts.

Hasn't started yet just out of the rooms. No team sheets left but so far I can see Weideman, Neal Bulleen, Mak King, Mitch white, Terlich, hunt, & Lumumba

So if we have stretch, michie, hunt and terlich all playing at Casey, does that mean we're going in with only 23 for tomorrow?

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
