Played against Sam this year when we played the Raiders twice. Was surprised to learn that he was only 18 half way through the year because he gave us a touch up. To finish 3rd in the leage best and fairest is an outstanding achievement considering its one of the strongest leagues in country victoria that featured the likes of Fevola, Kosi, Dean Polo, Setanta O'Hailpin, Kayne Petifer, Sean O'Keefe, Chris Hyde and many more.

I also wouldn't compare him to Jayden Hunt at all. Hunt was a true blue smoky because he had hardly played any footy except for the odd school game where Murray has played against senior and AFL seasoned veterans.

Could he adjust to AFL? Absolutely, but he would need to really knuckle down and work hard because he got cut from bushies due to lack of work ethic and poor endurance. We know that can all get fixed though.

I would rookie list him first. I think the fact that he has played a whole year at senior level instead of teenagers can be a plus on your side for development. There is definitely huge potential there. The 2nd time we played wodonga we put all of time and homework onto Murray as he caught us off guard last time and dominated.

Rarely do you put a tag on an 18 year old at senior level in bush footy but the kid is just too good for this standard.

Good luck to Sam. Hope he gets drafted purely on the fact that we don't have to play against him..lol

IIRC his manager shouted it from the rooftops, not us. We responded once it was out there and a done deal.

Fair bit of hyperbole there poita. Are you seriously saying that our club currently has loose lips? Nothing could be further from the truth IMO.

There were 4 or 5 clubs linked to this kid in the article and every club would've checked out an 18 year old playing great footy in a top line senior league.

As for trade week I don't think there was a trade done in the entire period that hadn't been speculated upon. There's only so many clubs, managers, uncontracted players etc and with thousands of media personalities covering the game almost everything gets out. I'd look at the manager and Essendon before I blamed the club. Both Bugg and Kennedy were kept under wraps, although neither are likely to be big stories.

Still, I'd attribute it to player managers & the opposition.

Our fondness for Parish would have been clear as he's the obvious choose for pick 3, and we were probably open with GCS about why we wanted to move up in the draft.

I'm not concerned about leaks at all.

Slightly off topic but leaks will come hard and fast as soon as year 12 exams are over. Well know within 24 hours of Melbourne talking to any player as we all have friends of friends of friends. Parish will have the interview with us, his brothers will talk to their mates and so on. Same with Curnow, Weiderman, McKay, Francis etc. it's a small world now and secrets aren't secrets for long.

So hopefully we will get a wind of Murray early enough for afl.com.au to at least have his picture on draft night =p

I recall James Hird on behalf of Essendon flying to visit Shaun Atley's family a day before the draft where they selected Dyson Heppell.

I wouldn't read too much into these leaks too quickly.

Don't know anything about him other than that he played alongside Aaron Davey who is playing for Doveton next year and might have recommended him to the Scorps.

Yarran Jaffer-Williams is a young indigenous prospect looking to spark his AFL aspirations back to life. He was a member of the QBE Sydney Swans academy and also represented the NSW/ACT Rams state side. He played primarily for the Sydney Swans Reserves and Sydney University. Jaffer-Williams was a highly regarded Swans academy prospect under the tutelage of now Demons mentor Paul Roos. He came up through the ranks alongside current Sydney Swans players Isaac Heeney, Jack Hiscox and Abe Davis. Due to some difficult circumstances Jaffer-Williams draft aspirations took a blow in 2014, having stopped academy training; virtually giving up his pathway to a potential shot into the AFL system. 

Mid 2015 saw a dramatic turn of events for Jaffer-Williams as he was scouted while doing "extra" work for a football segment of a TV show in Sydney. Determined to make a change in his lifestyle and work for his dream Jaffer-Williams packed up his life in an instance and moved to the Wodonga Raiders mid-season. His time at Wodonga was tough, his first game was his best game for the Raiders as a young and inexperienced man trying to adjust to the rigors of country footy. He'd eventually spend time in the Wodonga reserves, regularly finishing in the bests eluding to a shocking semi-final call up to take on Brendon Fevola's Pigeons. Jaffer-Williams left his mark on the Raiders with his very last game as he finished in the bests in an agonizing loss that ended Wodonga's season. Jaffer-Williams had re-signed with the Raiders for season 2016, having not completed a proper pre-season since early 2013 and with very limited football behind him since his Swans academy days, there is no ceiling to Jaffer-William's potential should he be nurtured and built up in an elite environment.

As has been the case with his journey to date, it took another fascinating turn as an opportunity to play VFL football transpired. Jaffer-Williams had meetings with the Frankston Dolphins, Port Melbourne Borough and the Casey Scorpions, eventually choosing to commit to the Scorpions program. Casey senior coach Justin Plapp choosing to meet Jaffer-Williams personally and detailing a plan that would see Jaffer-Williams nurtured and educated should he earn a shot on the Scorpions list played a critical factor in Casey being chosen as the preferred destination. 

Yarran Jaffer-Williams has been impressing immensely throughout pre-season. Finishing with a time of 6 minutes and 40 seconds for his initial 2km time trial (top 15), further backing up his run with a very respectable score of 21.5 in the 30:15 test. He solidified his strong results with a time of 11 minutes and 35 seconds for Casey's 4km time trial at AAMI stadium, finishing 4th overall. Still only 20, YJW has high hopes of playing AFL football in near future. 2016 is set to be a developmental year for the young indigenous prodigy as he looks to rewrite the errors of his past and make amends for the missed opportunities driving his burning desire to become the footballer the Sydney Swans had hoped he'd become.

That is a great insight into a young man's journey so far.  Thank you.  He has shown real determination and desire. 

Will look forward to watching him play at Casey.  Really, hope he gets his dream to play AFL...with the Dees of course!
