Not a big fan of what I see in his highlight reel.

I think he too small for the modern day midfielder.

He will get pushed off the ball too easily.

Same height and weight as scully who found it hard for the first 5 years to make his way through the middle.

We need 185cm 83+ kgs players.

Reminds me of no one in particular and looks too small and light! Just my opinion!

PASS!

He is obviously a talent but if we don't think he can build that frame, then we can't pick him.

One thing going for him is footy players are going to be required with this new rotations cap of 90 will make it easier for footy players to beat athletes as mids will stay on the ground in forward roles for a rest.

Like his attack on the ball. Seems like a bit of a live wire - kind of makes things happen.

And I like the fact that he's a country boy. Son of a shearer - they're tough blokes.

The club will put meat on that frame.

He'll build a frame as long as he has the desire to work as hard as he can, (which from what I've read, is one of his strengths).

He looks 'athletic' rather than skin and bone. The frame is there.

Obviously the most crucial element in this hypothetical is how we'd develop him, what position we'd play him early in his career and what role he'd be given early days.

As far as his attributes go, I think he'd compliment our midfield rotation nicely.

I look at what Collingwood have done with Steele Sidebotttom, Freo with Stephen Hill, Hawthorn with Bradley etc. From the day they were drafted they were developed and nurtured appropriately and obviously those individuals benefitted from having strong lists but I think Melbourne supporters are still scarred and scared about what happened with players like Toumpas, Gysberts, Morton etc etc.

I'll back our current coaching group to pick up whoever and give them the best preparation and chance to succeed at AFL level.

Our list depth/quality and coaching group now should alleviate these worries that supporters have when it comes to drafting players like Parish.

Whoever it is at 3 and 7, I'm confident they'll be staple best 22 players in a few years at the very least.

Just not feeling it with him.. He's no Brayshaw- THAT was a highlights package!

Liking the look of Hibbert, has a bit of Bontempelli about him (in the physical sense, and that kick :))

Kind of hoping we "reach" with 3 for the best available KPF and use 7 on the best available talent left over, but happy to just have faith with the recruitment team.

You don't reach with early picks. The FD know who they want with this pick and if it was going to be a reach they wouldn't have bothered trading up...

I doubt anything will top that highlights package.

To be honest, Parish looks extremely vanilla to me. He's clearly rated highly by those in the know for a reason, but his highlights don't scream top 3 pick.

As as been said by others - making judgement on highlights reel is not sound. And that video in particular has so little game action in it, it's ridiculous to draw any conclusions.

If that's directed towards me, you are misinterpreting. I'm not ruling anyone in or out based on a highlights package. If those who have watched him extensively deem him worthy of pick 3, so be it. I'm merely saying that on initial appearances, I wasn't overly excited.

I'm not sure if you remember, but Brayshaw's "highlights" package was lacklustre leading up to the draft, and the impressive vision was saved for the MFC-generated post-draft package.

He actually reminds me of Scotty West, both in appearance and in his ability to win the footy, break away from a pack and then make a good decision. In the little I've seen he is quicker and a more penetrating kick than Scotty. If he turns into 1/4 of the player Westy was we'll be very happy.

Very true.

They released a lacklustre highlights reel for Brayshaw which had people on DL very nervous about his kicking. Week of the draft, they released the 'real thing' and DL rejoiced.

Highlight packages are a bit of fun, but you can't take too much away from them.

FWIW...

Head says Parish

Heart says Curnow

Both have been known to be spectacularly wrong in the past.

I am really stumped as to who i prefer now that we have pick 3

Weitering is the standout and its likely he wont fall to 3 but its who i would select if he does

Just hope we get it right

Pick 7 will be far less scrutinized by the Media but i would really love to get Francis, Curnow etc here

Couldn't disagree more - thought Brayshaws highlight package was ok ... nothing more.

It says nothing about Brayshaw and said everything about the highlight package.

I mentioned it elsewhere but there was two Petracca packages and one made his footskills ordinary at best - the other made his footskills look sublime.

The reliance on any of these packages is sheer folly.

yes, yes and yes

He's the best player that's going to be there at pick 3, i'd say he's a lock

pick 7 is much less so

I liked all the Brayshaw highlight packages actually, I could see the footballer in him. And I know how highlights work, they are all most of us have to go by, seeing as we aren't professional talent scouts.

There were two highlight videos released of Brayshaw last year. The first one was collated from the Championships and was fairly uninspiring. But the second one was collated from the TAC Cup and he was deadset crushing blokes in tackles and hitting forwards lace out in every clip.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
