Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

thats fair enough. Given the lofty heights of the Hawthorn Midfield, and as reigning premiers Id be inclined to give that serious kudos Where would you put Simpkin if rating OUR Midfield..In it ...or not ?

Answer it like this, do you think Simpkin is better than all of these guys?

Jones, Vince, Viney, Brayshaw, Tyson.

Because along with Gawn, that's our midfield next year.

I think he would be pushing for a small/mid forward spot with some time in the midfield. With Petracca on the mend and hopefully Trengove I think he would still only be a depth player for us.

Probably adds a little more pace, which we could do with but not much else...

Probably not but thats not quite all of our midfileld pool though is it. Id have Salem in this group also...as is more than likely Petracca in time to come

Id counter ask would you have him worse than Michie Jones ( M) Terlich Newton ?

By default hed have to be better than Trengove ( reality is reality ) and youd think hed be as useful if not more still than the likes of Stretch and ANB at their current position in their long journeys. The latter two should get better but with greater depth you can take your time a bit more. No ?

I think he is better than many of the bottom end players we've had rotate through our midfield this year or last. Not sure if he is on the Roos/Taylor/TViney radar, but trust their call absolutely.

So do I Moonie...but I dont think the OP suggests anything invalid. I would have thought hed be worth a look and a half . A cheap( ish ) get and you better your depth .

He would be depth, along with Jones, Newton & co. I would expect ANB & Stretch to improve on last seasons form so wouldn't really see him as a better bet.

I've probably got the rose coloured's on, but I do expect to see Trengove back and making a real contribution. He is a natural leader and will have a big impact on the kids coming through...already has by the sounds of it.

Slight side track, but I fail to see why Terlich isn't to be paid out unless there are games planned for him next year. Might cost a bit, but if there's someone better that could take that place....

Could possibly just be insurance for a year in case Jetta cops another head knock?

Melksham will be playing back, so will Bugg most likely. We have Grimes & Mitch White as backup if Jetta gets injured. Terlich is a very lucky man, bad list management is the reason he remains on the list. We must stop giving spuds anymore than 1 year extensions

To be fair, he finished what was it 3rd or 4th in the Bluey when he got that extension, so at the time he wasn't considered a spud.

Out of those blokes only maybe Bugg would play a similar role to Jetta though. Either way Terls will be gone next year anyway.

It was last season (August 2014) we gave Terlich the extension Stuie, either way you are right, will be gone by the end of the season. I hope we use pick 50, it will drop after the academy teams bid on their players

See again you make an assumption then portray it as fact Simpkin could just as likely play 3-4 years of decent footy

Al anyone here is doing is window shopping. Seeing what is out there. There are bargains to be had for teams attempting to better their depth and bottom 1/4 of its list

Its need be nothing like the Neeld days. How often do premiership mids come on the market when you need mids ?

but hey lets by all means persevere with the still remaining list clogging NQRS

As one of the more impatient on this site, your willingness to recruit the cast-offs of others surprises me.

Very rarely do delisted players from other clubs go on to be great players elsewhere. It's the fringe players that strong clubs would be willing to keep that we should target, not the ones they happily let go. Not every reject from a top 4 club would be a walk up start on our list.

I proffer the question RD. Its a process of discussion.

Not all players need be stars .The power clubs often eject what they consider superfluous. They have that luxury. Even in reverse. Fitzy be a case in that mould.

The players im putting out there for discussion are invariably players who might surplant weaker ones on our list at the lower end.

Im not a great one to rely on drafting . You need to marry drafting with creative picking where ever it presents.

Everything is negotiable until the fat lady sings. Roos and co will look at everyone and though we may have said we are not looking to take a DFA we would have to have rocks in our head to pass on one that we thought could give us some benefit. Yes he is 28 but still has a few years in him of good football. He is obviously better than some of our second string players one of who probably needs to go to make room for him, keep all our draft picks and if another good prospect comes along you shuffle the deck again and get rid of the one least needed to get him.

I don't think Simpkin is the kind of player that would fulfil our needs at the moment. A 28 year old fringe player will not add very much at all, and that age gap that was glaringly obvious a couple of years ago is essentially covered. Time to develop our youth and recruit guys toward the younger end of the scale.

FWIW I hope we go for a state league recruit in his early twenties, such as Menegola.

Already have couple of Premiership players - hardly set our forward line/ defence alight.

Might make us a better team now; better to pump 40 games into a developing mid who will come of age - hopefully - when we need it.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
