Agree.

Not enough love for Jason Taylor and his recruiting team for biting the bullet not get sucked in by the hype Twomey and likes spruik out.

How good was his contested mark against a more senior and bigger Callan Ward :roos:

Was that the one on the wing where he wrestled and tossed his opponent aside?

Just gets his hands free every time. He has time that others dream of. I think the comparisons to Voss are quite apt, but there's quite a bit of similarity between he and Cripps. Our bloke is just doing it a lot earlier and has that quick burst of speed that Cripps doesn't have.

Agree his ability to get his hands free is uncanny. But he gets his hands up high and shoots off a handball, did it 5 or so times today, amazing. Must have big hands to hold the ball so high and unload, Voss didn't do that so often as I remember.

Yep

His clearances in the start of the last quarter were what got us back into the game.

A clearance beast.

Love him taking on the tackler and getting off a clean handpass.

Awesome.

And he hits targets with those handballs. Something a lot of our guys have struggled to do in recent times. He's been a breath of fresh air.

I'm not sure what I thought of this guy when we drafted him, but, I'm damn sure now. Clarry, your a gun, through and through. W.O.W. !!

The irony is that, in contrast to the Wines vs. Toumpas debate which raged on this site for years, both Oliver and Parish seem to be the goods judging from yester day's respective debuts!

Imagine when he is fit enough to spend more time in the middle along with Petracca , Brayshaw and  Viney?

Stop dreaming, the premiership could be a reality in a two to four years time.

Yep, we looked so much better when he was on the ground in the middle. More game time = more win for sure!!

I think this thread needs more people claiming to have pegged Oliver as a superstar upon first reading his name on Big Footy.

Congratulations all of you people, it'll be a travesty of justice if you haven't all been handed gigs as AFL recruiters by the end of the week.

Viney, Oliver and Wines. Echuca would've had a fairly decent midfield.

With those numbers, how could they not give it to him?

Well they could find a way....but luckily they didn't........

He's my favorite player and is already our best inside player. Not surprised our clearances drop off when he's not in there contested and releasing his teammates.

This kid is special and we f*cking nailed this draft pick!

Seriously, the kid is incredible. You only have to look at the way he burrows in and wins the contested footy and knows how to fire out a handball over opposition players to one of our running players into space. His awareness is on another level, not many players have that in the AFL. He is very similar to Cripps but more athletic and explosive.

I love Clarry!

Nice article.  Spot on with the facts and adjectives.  So glad Clarry is ours!

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
