Another interesting observation Oliver is taller than Gary Ablett snr so is Petracca.  I reckon when Oliver stops growing he will be bigger than Dunstall.

I'm excited. Yes I know it is more than height.

Funny how so many of our noobies fit a certain mold !!!

There's definitely a prototype style of player in mind now.

Would that be Nate Fyfe?

god i wish we'd recruited dunstall. imagine him as part of that late 80s / early 90s side alongside stynes, lyon, tingay, g lovett, b lovett, wight et al.

anyway, back to oliver...

was he better nab2 or nab1? probably more spectacular nab 2, with the mark and the big long sweeping handballs?

Parish is Essendrugs Toumpas

That club is going to get hit with the karma bus in every possible way

Nah, Parish can actually win a contested ball, Toump couldn't/can't win a contested possession to save himself.

Yep, there was a bit of consternation around picking a bolter who didn't play in the nationals but I'm happy to say the recruiting team have got this one right. They haven't done much wrong since Taylor came on board and I think it's an area of our club that definitely deserves some praise, especially turning around from where they came.

Well done for backing themselves and not getting caught up in the hype of Parish, a player who we definitely would've picked a few years ago. Targeting these big bodied, aggressive players has been a real focus and will see us be one of the more hard-nosed teams in the coming years.

I wanted us to get Weideman somehow,  & if we manged to snavel a mid before, then great.  We got Wiedeman,  & this other kid I never heard of,  prior to the weid.

Ridiculous.

Indeed.

Hardly getting stuck into Parish.

Would some like to see that, can be arranged..

Parish seemed a likely choice until a better came along. Essendrug will parade him out..poor chap...in for a thrashing.

Care factor......

How could Hogan ever leave Jones, Vince, Viney, Tyson, Petracca, Brayshaw, Oliver, Kent, Gawn...

Why do people insist on putting Kent in this group?

My Brother told me this afternoon that he'd pay to watch Petracca train (he was at Gosch's today) and that he's the most exciting talent he's seen come to Melbourne since Jakovich.

Best of all, they're all different and will complement each other.  Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw and Viney will be as good as it gets in 4 years time.

Add in Salem and you've got the most exciting midfield in the comp if you can keep them together and on the park.

Petracca - Oliver - Brayshaw  - Viney or all of the above.

It's actually outrageous when you think about the access to top end talent our club has had*:

Petracca: Pick 2

Oliver: Pick 4

Brayshaw: Pick 3

Viney: could easily have gone first round.

Salem: Pick 9

Tyson: Pick 3

These guys will make a formidable group in two to three years time. Keep them all together, on the park and they will take us close to the ultimate. Big call, but these guys all have elite traits that compliment each other. I think we might just be seeing the formation of something special.

Oh and the cherry on top at the end of this year? Dion Prestia. ;)

* It has certainly needed it though.

And they got the skinny kid. This time.

Parish has put on a bit of size since draft day. He'll be a strong midfielder.

I hate Parish because he plays for Essendon. I also hated Ben Kennedy up until last years trade period because he played for Collingwood.

Hogan?

It feels quite bizarre that we also have another top 10 KPF who is being largely ignored on here for the time being.

yes! and that KPF was considered an even higher prospect before injury took a bit of his shine off.. will be exciting when he gets a bag at Casey

Haven't seen Petracca on the park yet, but this blokes the most exciting player I've seen pull on a Dees jumper since I first saw Hogan.

I have seen Petracca on the park at training and I doubt that you will be disappointed when he plays his first match.

Watts - pick 1

Trengove - pick 2

Hogan (Scully#1 compensation?)

also Kennedy was pick 10 for the Pies (before we swapped for Howe/Toumpas#3)

p.s. And Tyson was originally pick 2 when GWS drafted him

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
