Just rewatched some of the early footage, and my assessment stands. I'll try and find some footage that changes my assessment.

Naturally, you're welcome to it, but your assessment is rubbish.

Having taken him at pick 3, clearly the club agrees.

Why you don't at hold fire on your views until you have at least some exposed form with the MFC is beyond me.

Sheeit I do! I want him to force his way into this team round 1 and sweep all before him!

We haven't had a young high draft pick in years who comes straight into the team and tears the opposition a new one!

Very welcome to the Club Clayton Oliver!!

Yes.

Fine if he forces his way in - but this coaching / selection / managing group is not going to "gift" him or anyone else games.

So - if he is ready, fire!!!!!

Oliver's "physical superiority"?

He was fat as a junior and still managed to dominate, imagine how much better he will be when he puts on more muscle.

Beat me by that much....Seriously, think of a 6 ft+ bollocking midfielder/ halfback comes to mind when Oliver fills out which. I refuse to compare him with anyone in particular as I'm hoping (only atm) he'll be better. As with great teams you need great players as history shows and with us we've gone pretty hard at a certain brackets of players over the last 3/4 years, combined with the handful of best performed players. The bonus is and cant work out for the life of me why the media arn't all over us or at least acknowledge us? Not even the "potential"? Only slowly are clubs(and not that many!) have talked up Hogan which I thought strange. As much as I want success straight away in 18mths-2years I reckon we'll be able to say as a complete, one of the best lists going around. Salem, Viney, Tyson, Brayshaw, Petracca, Hogan, Kent, Oliver, Weideman.. Iv probably forgotten a few but basically the list of the "Potential A-Graders" for the club that Iv just mentioned are only the newcomers. Serious talent on the list even after the bungled years of watshisname doing the drafting

Lacks class. Looks like another Jordie McKenzie or Mitch Robinson. Has a manic style, but I see a heap of turnovers with this guy.

But yes, it's a view formed on a 2 minute clip, so it should be taken for what it's worth.

So you have a privileged position on this site of being the only person entitled to their opinion. Mind you, you've covered every base, lol.

Thread gone a bit cringe worthy while reading so lets make it very clear...          Oliver will be a gun and incomparable to any past or present player. Look simply at not just what he achieved in last 12 mths but how he achieved it completely modest and level headed. Spent this summer disciplined, trained, earnt massive raps, lost excess weight and now only needs muscle. Im as guilty as the next for highlight reels but his underage footage is extraordinary by way of influence/complete domination. We have some serious talent on our list atm however apart from the second coming  (HOGAN), its Oliver who will bring the Brownlow by simply dominating games by foot and having rare commodity of being ahead with decision making. Super talent and apologies to Clayton for any added pressure as only a kid....but

An overly enthusiastic post there son! Assisted much?

Olie looks to be a gun. Tomorrows practice match may give us a first real look at him. While the coaches may not be looking at him for round one, I am sure Olie will still be doing everything he can to get picked for our first real game. Looking forward to hearing how he goes tomorrow and seeing him in the nab cup matches. I personally think he has what it takes to play round 1.

Oliver reminds me a bit of Jobe Watson. No drug references required or intended..

Clayton is 1 cm shorter and 4kgs lighter than VDB, as published on the club site. No midget now.  Being young, he could still grow a bit and with hard work, will put on muscle.

With Brayshaw, VDB and the smaller but hard as nails Viney and others like Tyson, Jones N etc, we could be building a very good midfield.

Exciting times ahead.

I hope not, Jobe was average until    his 2012 season. And we all know why he got better.

I am presuming that Petracca and Trengrove might be two of the players that you referred to as 'etc'?

He looks like a scrubber.

I see no class whatsoever.

Happy to eat humble pie in 5 years.

That's based on 3 minutes youtube, which supposedly shows his "highlights".

But you can retract a scrubber.

Scrubber - Yes.

Simpleton - No.

And while I look forward to the snide - isn't it easier to understand where mo64 is coming from when you were once there?

Nah.

I'd had a couple of lovely reds that night if I remember correctly (maybe one too many) and the sight of a Jordie McKenzie look alike was too much to bear, especially as I was then keen on Parish.

In the cool light day I thought I'd better take a closer look.  It took nano seconds to realise my previous offering was moron worthy.  Aghast, I quickly retracted and have been a "Clarriefier" ever since.

Well, there you go - the path to empathy; treat all posters you disagree with as you would your half-cut self...

And ProDee's post wasn't peronal?

I note that you and ProDee seem to have a mutual admiration of each others reviews.

Oh, and ProDee. Your initial bagging of Oliver was written at 9.15am, yet you blamed it on the reds. We all enjoy a red with our breakfast.

Of course it was peronal, whatever that means.

Baggie and I often disagree at the edges, but usually concur with the bigger stuff.  Not always, but usually.

So what did you think of Oliver on Friday ?

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”).
