Great article outlining the new football department structure for 2016.

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2015-10-09/dees-announce-new-football-structure

The article also has an enlightening interview with Josh Mahoney (Widely seen as one of the rising stars in football admin, and you can see why.)

Essentially, we're beefing up our development and gameplan areas, as well as undertaking an annual review of requirements in the coaching ranks, with the relevant staff having input on this (the senior coaching staff structure). I see this continuous review as a massive upside, as I've said in a few threads over the past few months.

The club looks to be ticking all of the right boxes as far as the off-field requirements go, with appropriate allocation of resources.

The next step is the on-field part. Hopefully the constant mis-steps are a thing of the past. At least the football conversations are coming from the appropriate channels now, unlike under previous administrations.

I'll try and bring it back on topic...

The article was terrific and the part that stood out to me is that Roos will be focusing more on further building up our culture and habits during his last year as senior coach. With Goodwin obviously taking on more responsibilities I think it's terrific that Roosy will further focus his efforts there. With such a young list we have the opportunity to make sure these guys are ready to go so that they can model these habits to any new draftees or players to the club.

As each year goes by I get a little more confident that we are, truly, headed in the right direction. There is still plenty of work to be done but we now have the right processes in place to take us where we need to go.

Good report and fantastic that Danile Cross with a sports science degree will contribute to the club

Very positive example for the next generation.

I think the Geelong game prove where heading in the right direction problem is we take two steps forward and one back eg bombers and blues game we had a chance for revenge and we blew it we could've ruined Enrights 300 th and had Hird sacked and ruined judds lap of honour this season we need to Start doing things like that, we screwed Corey and got clipped in the other 2 games, now my last gripe is with the fans we should get 40,000 members this year to thank PR for the platform he has set, how many guys post here that arnt members because if you do your pathetic Edited by Middymalt

I just hope Crossy is still not the last one off the track, hoping others have taken his example and will run with it. Edited by Cards13

I really like the strong focus on development, we have a young core that could develop into a premiership team, we're giving them every chance.

Tyson, Viney, Hogan, Brayshaw, Petracca, Salem, Mcdonald, Gawn all look like A graders in the making imo

got some good strong B graders and potential B graders around them too

exciting times ahead

Born in 77 mate, seen a few.

Pay that.

People always talk about Whorethorns great era of the 80's and totally neglect that they made 4 GF's in a row during the 70's winning 3 flags!!!

It doesn't quite specify the exact positions but I see he mentions McPherson mentioned as a development coach.

So we might be in the market for a new forwards line coach. (or it could be a slip of the tongue).

Either way I like that we have an experience and quality coaching group around Goodwin and we can add younger coaches in through the development position and at Casey.

I like the theory of this Jennings guy coming in and evaluating the coaching. You can have the greatest footy minds but if the message isn't getting across then it's wasted.

The one surprise I have is that we (and every club) don't have a specific kicking coach. Things like tackling, marking, ground balls, handballing can be taught through repetition and a pretty basic technique. If a player can't do those then they're unlikely to get drafted. But kicking is a very difficult skill that almost every player has to improve on from when they are drafted. Even the most natural kicks have to work on their penetration and execute under a much bigger pressure.

I don't know who instructs our players with kicking. Is it one of the development coaches? Do they just work on it by trial and error and repetition?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
