Matt Jones must have some incriminating photos of Roos in his safe.

It is strange that Jordies disposal seemed to get worse over time. Maybe it was a confidence thing fuelled by incidents such as that horrendous missed goal from a few metres out.

Shame about PigDog - I think his problem was no tank.

I think it was absolutely this. Roos is talking about getting runners in to the side with good skills - Riley had a horrible tank and questionable skills. He was always in trouble.

I can see Fitz getting another opportunity elsewhere which I hope happens. May even come back to bite us. I wouldn't rule it out.

Is there a possibility we may take him in the rookie draft like we did Jetta? I would love to see that happen.

Hardtack is on the money - if nobody picks up Fitz, I would be delighted to see him rookied.

May well be a bad case of 'hope over experience', but I keep thinking back to the Bulldogs game at the 'G' earlier this year when he was composed, assured, efficient (and gave Tom Boyd a 1st class rogering).

Are we in a position to pay players out every year?

No we're not, but its ridiculous that someone last year though he was worth re-signing for 2 more years.

Yeah, we are...we have to pay a high % of the salary cap. At the moment we don't have players that deserve to be paid high salaries so it's not going to hurt if part of the cap is to pay out contracts now. In the future this should not happen.

These blokes were fringe 22 at best.
I really don't care about the mass exodus of fringe 22 blokes anymore. It's a victory of quantity over substance.
The next step that shows we are serious about making difficult decisions is to trade those who have hung around the club for at least five years but have never lived up to their potential.

What would Fitz provide for the Melbourne list? He played one ok game as a tallback, at that not even the key tall back. At this stage we do have a few players ahead of him in that sense: Dunn, Tmac, Omac, garland, frost. Even Pederson can play that position. They all seem to be better options then Fitz.

With a possibility of 3 rookie spots opening up at the end of the year I'd be happy for Fitz to be re-rookied just to come in for one game a year and destroy Tom Boyd so i can laugh as he finishes each game against us with 4 disposals

I'm sorry, but whoever is responsible for Terlich's multi-year deal should use their own salary to pay him out. One of the most inexplicably shizen decisions in the last 5 years.

I think everyone was mortified when that contract was announced. Simply baffling.

Is it another 2 years or just 1? Or was it Matt Jones who got the 3 years?

Terlich has a year to run and unfortunately, so does Matt Jones.

I am surprised that Fitzy was one of four delistings yesterday. Not sure that we couldn't have worked with a 200cm versatile KPP or at least retained him on the list for the upcoming trade period!

I too was initially surprised with Fitzy. Got me thinking as to whom the FD are targeting in trade etc.

We need to lift the bar across the list. Can only think we're going after someone better. Fine by me.

With the retirement of the Russian and the delisting of Fitz the recruiters must have a ruckman in mind during the trade period given Spence is mediocre and King is not ready. Pederson can only fill in for short periods during a game.

Wonder if Leuenberger is in the frame?

No. He can only play as a 1st ruck, and we have Gawn. Spencer is an ideal backup 1st ruck, because he won't get a game unless Gawn is injured, and would be relatively cheap. King will be an ideal fwd/2nd ruck in 2 years time.

If we offload Dawes, we'll target a forward with 2nd ruck potential. Maybe Walker or Kersten from Geelong.

BTW, Fitzpatrick was never considered a ruckman by the FD this year.

Not sure why everyone is so keen to see off Matt Jones. You don't have 40 stars on your list, and he's a handy solid utility type who can come in and be ok when we have injuries etc. Should only be playing 4-5 games a year as opposed to 9-10 though.

Plus, he's not going to be on huge money.

Roos was ultimately responsible for the Terlich contract - without his approval, it wouldn't have happened.

It's no biggie anyway - these things happen in sporting clubs and Terlich would probably be on a relatively small salary anyway (that smallish salary could could be written off as an expendable item with an overall 10 million spend) The one thing in Terlich's favour is he goes hard at the ball.

No good sweating the small stuff - having players contracted who are on relatively small salaries who are at best "depth players" are a part of professional sports worldwide. We paid out Evans last year and it wouldn't have hurt us in comparison to the other clubs - nearly all the clubs are almost certainly faced with the same issue. Veteran players on decent coin often "peter out" in their last year or 2. It's just a part of professional sports.

List management is no easy task - certain factors which makes list management difficult are almost unavoidable. Writing off 150k-200k of a salary cap seems like a waste of money but if a lot of the clubs are doing the same (or similar) then it can become an evening-out process.

Other players on much bigger salaries who aren't excelling is a much bigger issue - we've got a few of those and those types may or may not be of any trade value. Roos and co need to find a way to get the best & most value out of these type of players.

He's not going to be on huge money, mate, no. But as a turnover merchant, he should be gone. He manages to limit his horrible, game changing turn overs for one or two games a year, the rest of the time he kills us. Why not get another runner in there that can do the same job, without E grade disposal?

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

Once again inaccuracy and inefficiency going inside 50 rears it's ugly head as the Demons suffered their second loss on the trot and their fourth loss in five games as they go down to the Pies by 38 points on Kings Birthday at the MCG.

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag
