LOL

Hawks give up 18 for Carlisle.

Eagles give up 17 for Redden.

We give up 25 for... Melksham.

Hawks are also giving up a player in that potential deal.

It's Pick 25 because of where we finished. It makes a pick in the third round, which is in the early 40s, too low. If we finish higher up the ladder then our second rounder would be somewhere between 30-32.

That's just the way it is. If we get something back that's a bonus.

Ex-Bomber Melksham lands at Melbourne

MELBOURNE has secured midfielder/half-back Jake Melksham from Essendon in exchange for selection No.25 in the NAB AFL Draft.

General manager of football operations Josh Mahoney said Melksham, who played 114 matches for the Bombers from 2010-15, had been targeted to play a specific role at the club.

“During this trade period we were looking for players who could come in and play straight away and Jake was identified as a potential player that fit into that category,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

Welcome jake I am confident he will kill it for us next year, pick 25 oh well [censored] happens

Welcome Jake - hope you're not allergic to leather...

Edit - because he will be the new DL whipping boy. Nothing to do with touching the footy, or ideas BBO has for you...

Wise, do you really think we don't understand that!!

We are outraged because that could have been done on Monday!

It wasn't - strongly suggesting we were not prepared to give up 25 on its own.

We have! We rolled over - to that crap lot near the airport.

That is the issue.

I wasn't too enthused when it first broke that we were interested, but our track record over the past 2 years has been very good and I'm happy to back the club. Pick 25 seems overs but it's not really. It's a second rounder which is what a 24 year old, 100 gamer is worth on the market these days.

All the best Jake, I'm hoping like crazy that you can come straight in a be a positive, consistent contributor to the side.

Welcome Milkshake, look forward to seeing him run around post Wada suspension.

No it's not.

There are heaps of deals going on. Mahoney said there was a hold up because of other deals going on. We may have already got other deals going that see us get a second round pick in return.

Rolled over? You couldn't be going more over the top if you tried.

So glad we spent the extra 3 and 1/2 days ironing out the kinks in that deal. At least our negotiators can feel like they've achieved something this week, whilst everyone else is circling the big fish.

Strongly suggested is right but it is not definitive. How do we know this to be the case, knowing Essendon they were probably after our first round pick this year and next and the first born of the current playing list. We may have beaten them down to this. No point getting angry over what we don't actually know.

I'd rather pick 25. Don't know if his football or head is worse.

Booooooo

Not even a 4th round pick back!

It's a punchable head but now it's OUR punchable head. Can't say I'm a fan but I'm happy to be won over.

It's a good thing it goes for 2 weeks. Imagine if it had gone to late next week; thankfully the club has your health to consider.

I don't really know how to describe how I feel about this deal.

This just about sums it up

what a joke from the MFC footy department

Welcome Jake, not jumping out of my skin about the deal but you are now a MFC player so you now have my support

lol, any excuse for a sook.

So we gave up pick 25, big deal. Move along.

Welcome to the MFC, Jake.

Maybe they've also rented him out a room with Watts and ordered him to mentor jacky with a few wrestling and boxing sessions on the sofa every week.

  • GAMEDAY: Geelong

It's Game Day, and reinforcements are finally arriving for the Demons—but will it be too little, too late? They're heading down the freeway to face a Cats side returning home to their fortress after two straight losses, desperate to reignite their own season. Can the Demons breathe new life into their campaign, or will it slip even further from their grasp?

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
