What a shambles we must've been that a bloke who said he was pain all the time whilst running was never properly diagnosed.

I'm hoping like hell these days are behind us.

You are twisting words here dazzle. It says 'signs' of a fracture, which is obviously different to their being a full fracture there. Clearly if there was he would've gotten surgery - I don't know of anyone who is able to play out a season with a fracture in their foot. Clearly they could see it flaring up and decided to let him rest and see how it turned out. Obviously things got worse and if they could turn back time they would... but they can't. I don't think Misson deserves a 'massive whack' for it.

Super article though. Great to see Trenners still loves the club and he could be classed as a new recruit IF he gets through pre-season. I don't expect him to regain the form he once had but he'll be a handy player to have in the side going forward.

Why shouldn't he get a wack!? He and his team plus the medical are in charge of this department. He is someone with immense experience and he failed miserably here and now Trengove has paid the price because the dumbshits thought he should push on after the first sign of foot fracture.

It is plain and simply not good enough.

The day this bloke runs out for the Mighty Dees again will be a very emotional return....I really hope it happens.

Interesting he is using Gawnys two years out with injury as motivation ,look at big Treebeard now.

We all know how Trenners looked slow in his last couple of years, and he was a gun junior, so fingers crossed he can get back to somewhere near his best.

I had already come to the same conclusion: both internal and external pressure to push through it.

I don't think any one player has been as resoundingly screwed over by this club as Jack Trengove. I hope he gets back, as much for personal reasons as footy ones.

The doubters forget how good he was.

In fairness, the doubters weren't informed that his foot injury was greatly impacting his performance. Everyone assumed that the weight of captaincy was the trigger of his form decline.

Seems like a high quality bloke, and would love him playing close to his best next year.

I would suggest doubting and knowing good bad or indifferent are entirely unrelated ideas.

I still harbour doubts that he'll be able to get back to his previous level but that doesnt stop me from admiring his spunk and determination, nor acknowledging he was coming into some fine form before going down.

He was a good player. Injury slowed him then nobbled him.

My problem with many of the posts over the last few years are that many carried on about his lack of pace when it was obvious that injury of some type was slowing him down.

I and others stated on numerous occasions that you just don't lose pace in your early 20's unless something is seriously wrong.

It was obvious if anyone took the time to look at his earlier games but many just didn't want to hear about it.

Some of the posts were just plain ridiculous but I guess that went with the territory the way the team as a whole was performing and supporters looking at a lot of our wasted early draft selections.

Trengove was always a good pick at 2, lets just hope he gets back on the park to prove it.

If only he'd dealt with it and sat out earlier. I can't help but feel he was under pressure to get out there each week after being made captain when the wise thing would've been to treat it early on. I commend him for that resilience somewhat but he was ugly to watch out there, especially in 2013. Despite my constant loathing of him throughout that time, what I can't doubt is his passion and determination. We've already seen what he can do from his early games so should he get some zip back in the foot it's not like he'll be a dud

Ridiculous that either bloke cops criticism with the garbage they were put through in the Neeld era... both thrust into the captaincy at a very young age when neither was ready or worthy. Its wonder either of them still enjoy their footy, andI hope they do.

Its amazing how being made captain affected so many aspects of Grimes game - ability to dispose of the footy, footy smarts, leadership. Another one of the "we picked him based on his personality" picks. Any chance he just isn't that good. He's the sub.....again, after being in and out of the side. Look forward to next year with Petracca coming back plus any mids we trade/draft in. I'm thinking the only reason he's even sub is he will be offered up at years end. A very expensive depth player. At 26 still plenty of time to get a fresh start at another club and become the star player many think he is. I doubt if there would be much interest at all for him. While we have him and a couple of others still running out we aren't going anywhere in a hurry.

I understand many on here will disagree publicly but behind closed doors know it's time for him to go.

Can't wait to see Trenners back and firing for the MFC. He will be a great half forward with some midfield minutes then hopefully build back into a full time midfielder.

Another simplistic overstatement. There were many saying that he looked injured and I am sure the club thought so too but just couldn't get the diagnosis.

The retrospectoscope is a wonderful medical tool.

It remains to be seen whether his slowness was due to this injury all along and how he will recover. i wish him well.

It only remains to be seen whether he can recover, you only need to look at his first few seasons to understand how the injury effected his running and strength at the contest.

Btw im gonna take a massive wack at Dave Mission here. It says in the article he had a fracture in his foot in 2012 but played out the season. Why the hell did they let him play out the season!!?

Surely after so long on the sidelines he would need some match practice (NAB might not be enough).

I am guessing they will increase his running very slowly hopefully he is basically into full running come start of preseason.

He is ready to start the preseason and hoping for rnd 1 but that isn't a given. He is incredibly realistic:

Trengove said he understands the importance of next year on his playing future.

"The reality is that it's a pretty ruthless sport and we've seen in recent years that it's getting more ruthless in terms of contracts and clubs looking to see what's best for them," he said.

"There's no doubt that I'm in for a long year in terms of trying to put my best foot forward and play some good footy to warrant another contract.

Seriously admire his resilience and fortitude. Deserves a bit of luck.

this is because of the fitness demanded with the beloody rotations. all the extra pounding pavements in running/training. The game needs to step back, from drugs, rotations, & supplements, to become more organic again.

Jacks is clearly one very positive and very mentally tough guy. There aren't many guys who have to put up with as much during their career and the way he has handled it has been fantastic. I cannot wait to see him back on the park, because I imagine the joy he'd be feeling at that time would be absolutely amazing.

Really hoping he can make it through the preseason, string some games together and resurrect his career. He's absolutely best 22 when fit. Can't wait for him to kick his first goal in 2016 and see the entire team get around him.
