James Hird Sacked

Anybody ask him at the press conference if he was gonna leave his computer behind....

The best though;

THE WAY JAMES HIRD HAS BEEN TREATED THROUGH ALL OF THIS IS **** DISGRACEFUL AND INHUMANE
THE CLUB THAT HE LOVES AND BLEEDS HAS TREATED HIM LIKE A PIECE OF ****.
HE AS ENDURED MORE THAN ANYONE HAS HAD TO GO THROUGH,BUT STAYED TRUE BECAUSE OF HIS LOVE OF THE CLUB AND THE PLAYERS.
AND HE GETS TREATED LIKE THIS.
NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
THE ESSENDON FOOTBALL CLUB WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN.

The delusion is strong with Essendon supporters.

With some. but its a bit like the dwindling rump supporting Tony Abbott, or the few delusional generals supporting Adolf in his final hours. There are many Don's supporters who stopped supporting Hird a long time ago, I know of a number who refused to take out memberships because of the drugs scandal and Hirdy's behaviour. There will be always be a small hardcore of Neo-Hirdists but he lost support of many Bomber fans over time.

And yet they had record membership numbers this year didnt they?

I've seen a couple of comments saying this is Essendon's Norm Smith moment. I guess I can see the similarities if you ignore the lack of premierships or any sort of dominance of the competition under Hird. Right?

This is just too funny:

Hird was a class act to the end. Always put players ahead of himself. Eventually he will be remembered as a Mandela type figure #standbyhird

Bahahahaha!!!!!

maybe little paul donated his millions in the form of memberships?

alternately i think the northern suburbs has turned into a religious stronghold for efc as they feel persecuted like the christians of yore

That is pure gold!! The imbecile who wrote it was probably visualizing Morgan Freeman. They are a bunch of dumb [censored].

I hope there's just enough delusion left in the board for them to think that hiring Malthouse is a good idea...

I guess they'll expect some form of resurrection on the T Hird day.

Take your point DD but does not mean that they all supported the tarnished one. I guess it really doesnt matter. He's gone.

Probably dumb enough that they were visualising the Dalai Lama!

Let's all wallow in someone else's misery! Gives our lives a pep-up.

Maybe this is our chance to offload the NSC!

I wish them 50 years without a premiership!

Apparently Robbo is going to write something tomorrow that he's been working on for a while.
Now that Hird is gone, it's going there.
He's rather emotional about it.

A couple of good ones there but there is a very good chance they wont be playing for the next two years.

Neeld will be able to recommend to Tird a good hotel in Thailand to go hide in.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
