Harley Bennell

That's purely speculative and not what I meant by 'break the bank'.

Bennell is worth $700,000 a season - Treloar money - and we won't have to reach that deep into our budget given the circumstances.

It depends on what sort of money he is currently on at GC. He still has two years to run on his deal and, if we were to get him, we would take on that contract. It may not be 700k, but it wouldn't be cheap either.

It's a massive yes from me, can't believe people are saying no at some point we need to back ourselves in to take a risk like this lets get it done

I actually can't believe there's any debate on it.

The only way a club like ours, which is in desperate need of more elite midfield talent and which is not a preferred destination for elite players can get someone like Bennell, is through this type of situation.

And I back Roos, Goodwin, McCartney and the leadership group (including Jetta, JKH and Gartlett) to straighten him up.

3AW team seem pretty confident Hawks are going after Bennell hard.

Would be infuriating if that came to pass.

Everyone else may as well just pack up shop and let Hawks, Sydney, Geelong, West Coast, Freo and Adelaide rotate the premiership each year.

What could the Hawks offer? Suckling and pick 20? Surely that wouldn't be enough.

There's also the option that GC will pay part of the contract if we're not wiling to pay the full contracted value, similar to what happened with Woewodin to Pies. With GC coming out and saying he has to go they've opened that possibility, to a certain degree, as they've weakened their bargaining position.

Given Suckling's a free agent, they can't even offer them him. Maybe Frawley? Haha.

Offer them Howe and Watts.

Or Howe and Garland.

Or Howe and Grimes.

Again, Garland's a free agent, so we can't trade him.

Free agents can be traded under certain circumstances.

True, but only if that were the club they nominated and we then match the contract offer put to them by that club,

Is yet to happen since they introduced free agency. Thought Hawthorn may with Buddy, but didn't happen.

Surely GoldCoast would be asked to pay a fair chunk of his wage, as has happened with other cast-offs in the past (Woewoedin, TJ & Fevola come to mind).

And if not, surely that excludes Hawthorn.

In fact, it makes us a more attractive proposition to trade with than the Hawks, as we would have to potential to absorb more of his contract.

Had a think about this. So many pkayers are a gamble but with Bennell you at least know the exhilaration of his UPside.

We simply need a big injection of ability. They work...or they don't. If not breaking the bank or back of the club...roll the dice I say.

It's not a "similar" risk. Bennell has 5 years in the system and 81 games. Garlett never played a single game or got through one AFL season.

that's why i said it didn't cost them real money

i was only indicating they hard been burnt recently with a similar type and this time the cost could be much higher

seems like it. Perhaps you and some of your supporters on here should be on another website: the Collingwood supporters one, where everyone uses drugs, has been in prison, has no teeth but has lots of tattoos.

Wow. Hope I never go into your emergency ward. No shades of grey with Kali. You're either a shut in who's never gone outside of his/her house or comfort zone (a saint) or someone who has experimented/dabbled in some recreational drugs (a devil).

You sound like a theological enforcer/bible basher/aggressive athiest. Don't feel you need to tell other people how to live, you don't actually get a say in that.

"You and some of your supporters" lol.

Sounds like you're the new Charlie Manson, Adam.

What you don't get is that there are some things that are just plain right and wrong. Whether they happen now or in BC 2000 makes no difference. The so called modern humanism is a small blip in the history of the world as you are. There is nothing that is happening today that has not happened before over the course of time in human existence.

It's disappointing, because I liked this thread. Then again, it's interesting to read some people's bafflingly narrow minded views. It's illuminating. Oh well. Back to my Helter Skelter world.

No the police, the government and the people who elect the government get to say. Charlie.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
