My personal opinion on him now is that he will either get given a 1 year contract or seek a trade. Either way while he is on our list he still has my full support.

No its just yours who I don't agree with because your an all time Fl og whos football opinion is irrelevant never taken serious on here.

BTW I have played enough football to know a lot more about it then you ever will. Don't need to tell an irrelevant individual like yourself who is clueless as they come when it comes to football.

Stick to cricket mate.

STICK TO CRICKET MATE? Played a little bit but was always regarded as a better footballer with excellent football knowledge!

I Think Yarran would be a perfect project for Paul Roos, classy ball user, quick, breaks lines exactly what we need won't cost much and is a great mate of Jeffy Garlett!

Perfect pick up! I'm sure Roosy can make him into a great player!

Would need to show a lot more in these last few games to get that, but hey lets hope so eh?

Picket Fence is a little bit like Caroline Wilson.

Bangs on so relentlessly, excessively and abrasively about one topic that it actually convinces people to avoid having the same opinion.

Toumpas is struggling and may even be cut at the end of the season, which is very disappointing.

He may also be 'saved' by the weak draft and the fact that we have four or five other players clearly finished at AFL level.

Much like a couple of others of our current core 22.

Any word on who to draft? Kieren Lovell is going to the surprise of the draft mark my words, if Hawthorn get him (as projected) then god help the rest of the league.

he's an interesting one, isn't he

he'll be a highly speculative pick, but not such a risk as a late pick or rookie

Interesting how the trade news is starting to ramp up big time. All sorts of players are being mentioned with all sorts of Clubs but Dees are conspicuously absent. Hope that's because the new regime understands the value of not leaking anything to the press. I hope it's not because all the players we were fantasising about have no intention of coming to us and have already indicated to the press where they want to go. Fingers and legs crossed it's the first and not the second. It will be a bit disappointing if Roosy's cache failed to pull an A Grader during his reign. I suspect with the way the teams still playing it will take another year before they are playing well enough to attract A graders.

Personally I'm not too worried about not getting Dangerfield. I think we're too far away to justify spending $700k+ on him. Would probably end up like Judd at Carlton. In the big picture would be hard to justify the money spent on him for the overall performance of the team during the time he was there.

Who do people think the A Grade midfielders are that would be worth $700k+ and out of those who would be a fit for the Dees. Established A graders that come to mind are Fyfe, Ablett, Dangerfield, J Selwood, Pendelbury, Bartel?, Deledio?, Cochin? Hawthorn have a few but all too old for this conversation. I would say Fyfe at 23 is the only one young enough to warrant that sort of money for the Dees. What would you pay for up and comers like Jaeger O'Meara, Treloar, Coniglio, Prestia, Crouch etc. Seems crazy to go around paying $700k+ on them.

I'd offer Prestia a 5 year deal at $650,000 per year and heavily front load it. I'd be happy to go up to $700,000 if it meant landing him though. Just make sure we front load the hell out of any big contract we give this year, because we want to be paying Hogan, Brayshaw, Petracca, Viney, Tommy Mac, Tyson and hopefully Salem the big bucks in years to come.

If we managed to land Prestia and another A grader, we should expect finals next year, even a top 6 finish. It's just that very top echelon of talent in the 22-25 age bracket that our list lacks. Address that this trade/FA period with two A graders and 2016-2017 will be very exciting.

Throw in Gawn and possibly Trengove (keep hope alive) and we are bringing together a nice little squad.

The problem is though we only have Hogan and Tmac at either end, we need more KPD/KPF for mine. We have Frost, but that's far from a sure thing. There is literally nobody else coming up the ranks unless Oscar Mac and/or King quickly starts to do some damage. They are nowhere near it at present. The other problem is that KP's tend to take longer to hit their straps (unless you are a freak like Hogan, and we won't be finding another Jesse any time soon). I'm not sure our focus on a gun midfielder is putting our eggs in the right basket at this time.

Yeah, Gawn is the other bloke we should be offering a bit to too.

I reckon the midfield is the correct focus. If you look at the majority of flag winning teams, they all have gun midfields and usually one gun forward and a role playing KPF. We have Hogan and then Tommy Mac at the other end. We need midfielders that can break the game open and skill and pace off half back to get us out of trouble.

Tom Lynch for 750,000 on a 4-5 year deal, absolute superstar, him and Hoges together would be bloody brilliant.

Or alternatively pip one of Gold Coasts other young KPFs for a bit cheaper, Day, Dixon etc.

What's the situation with Josh Kelly? Saw on an AFL website post (I know, i know) something about him being a good fit for Melbourne or something?

you think Dixon will come cheaper than $750,000?

Not much but a bit, like 600.

Yes though it would take our 1st round in exchange... has Kelly shown enough to warrant this.

IMO yes

Don't know how you can justify it though? If God exists, and he doesn't truly hate us as we suspect, Hogan will go on to have an MFC injury free career. What if he doesn't? Same goes with Tommy Mac. Are you really OK with one shining light at either end and nothing else to back it up?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
