Round 17 - Non MFC Games

Hawks will win the flag then pick up Treloar or Danger.

Hate to say it Al but I need to correct you on that. Hawks will win the flag then pick up BOTH Treloar & Danger.

I'm not concerned about the talent pool being too shallow to support 18 teams. It is the distribution of talent that is the problem. It wouldn't matter if the top teams had 8 B class players and some of their A class players were at other clubs, the spectacle wouldn't suffer much if at all. It would be better since games would be more even.

i wonder if they'll apply for a priority pick like brisbane? wouldn't surprise me.

and, like brisbane, i'd wager they'll get it.

if both clubs apply, so should we.

We should support them loudly. That'll scupper any bid from either.

Peaking too early

You can't be serious. They dropped some early games they should have won. They want top two and they'll get it. The Freo game was over at qtr time. Can't see them losing a game for the rest of the year, and that includes the Eagles in Perth and delivering a wake up call to the yellow and black faithful.

Ha, whilst not across their list management I know Hodge signed for next year, not sure about Mitchell/Lake. Not sure that they've used up all the money they had set aside for Buddy. They are slick operators, they've be been too quiet, everyone is linked to Collingwood, I think one will find their way there. I think the appeal of Geelong is diminishing by the week. Good luck to them, other clubs should aspire to be like them.

Its actually scary what the hawks have done to freo, sydney and now carlton in the past 3 weeks. Next friday night they have richmond. But this is what top sides do. They crush the lower teams.

But its also sort of nice to see another team cop it. But now I guess now we know how awful we have looked over the years. But Im not sure Gill will be happy today with that game on last night while over at the G over 99,000 were at the soccer.

Im just glad we dont have to play hawthorn again this season.

By the way is anyone secretly hoping brisbane beat nth tonight and will find it funny if they do and wreck boomers 400th. Plus put the spotlight on nth again. I cant see it happening though.

We got one last year, time to move on.

The thought never crossed my mind that Carlton had 7 Friday night games this season. Given their ordinary form over the past few seasons the largess is completely underserved and unjustified. They certainly have a guardian angel over there. No wonder the comp is ailing with this kind of corrupt scheduling and favouritism going on.

yes, and his name is 'mike fitzpatrick'.

for whats it worth heres the 2 multis for the weekend, both unlikely but gotta be in it to win it , dons over port could come unstuck although they have a good record against and match up well , pies over dogs maybe wrong among others and goldy over crows after a few big weeks for the crows is in the unlikely category.

Hawks and Hawks

GWS Cats

CROWS Goldy

TIGES Tiges

DONS Dons

NORF Norf

DOGS Dogs

DEES Dees

SWANS Paying $1050 for a 5 bet Swans paying $4361 for 5 dollar bet

Love multis! I usually take with margins under/over 39.5......cant see the drugsquad beating Port but....

A Friday night game!

The remark was made in response to applying for a priority pick. We didn't get one last year at all.

And for that matter, we didn't get a Friday night game either although we did get one this year (and that was a Richmond home game so they got the financial benefit).

Knee jerk were sub rule, sliding rule, interchange cap, and all have had a negative impact on the game's quality. Not to mention this 'interpretation' BS. It's not so much the rule changes, it's the umpires being fed what to 'crack down on' every 2 weeks, and then softening their interpretation of it 2 weeks later. This changes the image of the game constantly. There's too much knee jerk coming from the top.

In theory the zone thing sounds alright but it'd be a pain in the ass with all those stoppages and off the ball confusion.

The talent pool is an interesting one, but the compromised drafts coupled with free agency have left a few teams screwed in the middle and looking for mature VFL-types

Agree with this...interpretations continually change. I blame Evans for this, a lot talk him up as being a great administrator but the evidence is there for all to see. The game is a mess and he has to take responsibility.

Great ever snagged a winner on a multi ? Just starting out myself

We were knocked back for a priority pick after other clubs opposed it, but then we got Pick 3 for Frawley, way overs in my opinion. In effect we got a Clayton's PP, the usual dodgy AFL compromise.

What we got for Frawley refracted what the Hawks pay him.

Richmond have actually matched up well against the Hawks. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a fantastic contest and people have forgotten about the previous week's fiasco

Hoping GWS beat Geelong as it will probbaly end their finals hopes.. sick of them in the finals every damn year

It is a joke that the umps favor Selwood. He ducks, gets tackled, gets a free kicks.

It is a blight on the game, does nothing for the umps, it is pathetic.

Turning into netball.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
