If i was new to AFL and i saw those highlights for the first id say Roosy has him covered by a long shot.

I never got to see Roosy play so can someone what he actually explain what type of player he was and who would you compare him in todays game.

Allen was something out of this world, if he played 5 seasons he would be held much much higher.

His brother was a super star, absolute super star.

Roosy, was clean, always clean, wether by hand, foot or marking. Was brilliant in drifting across and taking marks even in the horrible mud.

Roosy reminded me of Stynes a lot

They both played the sweeper role off half back very well.

At Fitzroy earlier Roos was CHB..Back Flank

He and Gary Pert were very solid defenders

Glenn Jakovich was the only one who could beat Wayne Carey fair and square

MaCavaney would go completely off his rocker

Neitz beat Carey early in his career, and Carey has said he was one of the hardest to play in and Neitz was only 21, if he wasn't required to play FF after Ox and Lyon went down I still reckon he would have been one of the great CHB the game had seen.

But there were certain games Jakovich completely blanketed Carey (finals included)

Not many could do it

Jacko also played in a awesome team. North were good as a team, individually not as strong as west coast, think jackovich, worsfold, McKenna, McIntosh, Brennan that was their back five and all were bloody good. Plus they had a star midfield and wings.

In some ways, I remember Roos as being a bit like Cross (when he drifts into half back, is tough and steering over head) but maybe crossed with a bit of Tom McDonald's taking the game on, definitely with better disposal.

I was younger and didn't watch heaps of him so I may be wrong but that is the best "who is he like" I can think of.

Jackovich was a brick wall. Nothing got past him. He was fast strong and rebounded. And he never had a third nab up to help him in one on ones. He just won them with strength.

I remember disliking Roos after watching Fitzroy beat us in the last round in 1993,I only started liking him a couple of years ago.As for Glenn,I never saw him play but his brother was pretty awesome.

Both were great centre half backs. At least one of them never took performance enhancing substances to enhance their career we think.

My quick answer would be Jackovich = terrific player.

Roos = champion player.

Roos was more versatile.

I remember him as a 19 year old starring on the wing.

The thing that sticks with me from Roos' game is his defensive marking. Kind of like Harry Taylor in that he had great judgement and really clean one-grab hands when he went for the intercept mark.

Allen was a good forward. I'm not convinced that his IQ level was in the genius class.

both were absolute guns, couldn't fairly separate them, though they did play differently

both were very consistent reliable performers and both great marks

roos was probably more silky and classy whilst jako was more a big powerful brute of a player

both were resilient and had long careers but roos with 356 games outlasted jako with 276

jako was 193cm and 100kg wheras roos smaller at 188cm and 88kg

Roos was one of the best readers of the game I've ever seen, with decision making and disposal to boot. He had the knack of seeing the best option, which seemed like the most creative also because it set up attacking plays. A very smart and very reliable footballer. Sort of a taller and faster Brett Lovett, and that's no slight on the great BL. When he and Gary Pert were at Fitzroy together at CHB and FB, they were great to watch.

Glen Jakovich was a monster who had complete confidence in his physical superiority and sound skills to match. He played in a time when you could still get away with being a defender who lacked the complete game. What he did, he did brilliantly, but wasn't the all round talent that Roos was.
