My 3 word player analysis v Geelong

Couple of minor things.

Bail=first time he did a job and completed it without losing concentration and letting opponent off the hook.

Spencer=played his best game and centre shutdown off opponents and not letting ball out of area was his best, also flew for marks down forward and had to be covered by geelongs spare down back, allowed others to run onto spillages.

Jack Watts=has been written many times about his momentum clangers, provided 2 yesterday which had people hanging their heads and hoping it wouldnt effect the result.

Just watched the replay, and you're correct about Spencer. Bail constantly fumbled the ball, and had no impact. And I'm struggling to work out the 2 Watts' clangers. He was decisive with all his possessions, and tackled with intent. The best all-round game I've seen from him.

You can't go from promising youngster to best full back in the game in 6 months, basically. Or at least, it's highly unlikely. He's showed what his absolute best output can be when all the stars align, but it's unreasonable to expect to see it like that every single week, especially while so young.

There's nothing wrong with him, and he's going to make Frawley look average in comparison over the journey, but he's just not ready to be the best defender in the comp just yet.

Yep

Dunn: General down Back

Gawn: A breakout game

Vince: continues to lift

Jones: The better captain

Viney: integral to team

Brayshaw: A gun finally?

Watts: turned a corner

Tyson: returning to form?

Garllet: dangerous with ball

watts up with him; is it he's more comfortable being incognito in a side running well?

he seems more motivated, relaxed & is starting to go in. I didn't see this weekends game, but may the improvement continue.

Could have something to do with:

"the great white hope" Hogan

The rising star Brayshaw

Think most of the media and fans attention are focused on those two.

He signed a contract but I wasn't 100% sure he was confident with that decision (don't blame him) - I think he now knows where he belongs.

I agree. Maybe jazza would like to nominate the two so called 'clangers'. I bet one is where he started to play on, then cooly handballed to ANB for a goal. If he had have been caught with the ball then that would have been a clanger but this simply didn't happen.

First quarter loose ball in the centre,2 loose players in forward 50 and he didnt run to the contest,{pretty normal im afraid}

It was a huge swing,if he took the play on we have an open goal,Dont think it showed up on telly,Cross actually said something ti him on the way past.

2nd one was a definite chance to impact another contest and he didnt, geelong player chipped him about it.

Yes he did play well, but these moments when the game can be broken open and he doesnt make the contest through lack of wanting to get there has been his downfall.Still id imagine most telly watchers to count his possies abnd not see the lack of drive.

Whilst im no fan of his,yesterday he must have got a rocket at half time and showed some fair dinkum go in the second half.{getting to the contest}

Pretty harsh on Bail and Jetta who played important roles and kept the pressure up.

Agreed. Both have a bit of leg speed and did well to keep the pressure on Geelong's damaging young small forwards. I believe Bail is and will be an important fringe player to come in for injuries to different positions. Has the potential to be a versatile role player. Mature body and a good engine with a bit of pace. Just needs to steady his disposal and keep his intensity and concentration.

The one that that moron Derwayne called "Watts marks...turnover...." !! How about "..goal assist.."?

We actually did not have a bad player for the day. Roos singled out Jeremy Howe and he was correct - didn't have a great deal of the ball at all. But was continually flying to bring to the ball to the ground - sometimes against two - he kicked two himself and was directly responsible for two more due to his contesting.

Was it a great game ? No - but a pat on the back for "Doing his bit".

( Bail fumbled a bit - but he did some fantastic pressure acts. Jetta the same)

It angers me that there has been plenty of genuine stuff to dislike about Watts in the past without having to invent "possibilities" - the AFL website had the video up of that play and labelled it " second gamer saves Watts' blushes".

He took one stop forward got called to play on and cool as you like - handballed it to a man in space. He could have absolutely stuffed it up - but he didn't. No blushes...no saves...

For Christ's sake, they have got to stop this in depth examination of every little thing he does.

I think you're looking too hard.

exactly

jazza why don't you watch games with an equally as critical eye to everything that goes on around our favourite kids: Byarshaw, Hogan and Viney. You will find they also commit these so-called 'sins' but nobody mentions it - only Watts and Toumpas get called out these tiny errors that happen dozens of times in every game.
