Remember in the preseason when people were saying he might get delisted at seasons end cos of one bad kick in a meaningless NAB Cup game.

Massive LOL

Oh god. I remember that.

One person even said that he was lucky to have been picked up in the draft at all.

Seeing that I thought I couldn't love this bloke any more. Then I saw the interview he did the next day when he admitted, with a smirk, that the chat as they both ran to the bench involved him asking Joel Selwood why he was bleeding so much.

i also liked his reference to having a lot of respect for selwood "as a player"

ie - thinks he is a complete d/head

I can't remember who mentioned it on AFL360, but they were comparing Brett Kirk to Jack Viney. Roos believes they are similar in character & attributes. Different career paths obviously one from the rookie lost the other was an elite junior. The thing that stands out to me & obviously so many others is how hard at it he is. He may not be the most gifted in terms of skills, but I think he is a player you can build your team around like Hodge, Kirk & Selwood. Yesterday he was just as influential as Max Gawn & Bernie Vince, he may not have been heralded as the match winner but he definitely set the tone & was not willing to be beaten. It was an epic effort to destroy Selwood on his home turf. I hope it's the beginning of great things to come from Jack.

hahahahha I noticed that too. Ordinarily, you would just say, 'I have a lot of respect for Selwood.'

Viney has had the aggression since day 1, but he has cleaned up the rest of his game, his disposal still has a bit to improve on but it has improved so much since his first season.

And his ability to tag Ablett, Steven and Selwood and to beat them convincingly shows how much his defensive game has improved which has a lot to do with his fitness and competitiveness...

He could be a star of the competition just needs to sharpen up his disposal ...

Robbo mentioned it. Roos started off by insinuating they weren't that similar and then by the end of the conversation, he said there were similarities (to placate the drunk football writer).

Remember a couple of weeks ago when you said Roos should give his pay back and leave?

I think that girl Wojinski goes on his list ! And he was only 17 hahah

Shame he missed all those weeks with the leg injury, hed be staring down the barrel of winning the Bluey if not for that.

He will still finish high though (might even win it).

If it bleeds you can kill it.

And Jack whispers. "I own you now ducker"

I think we need to have a name list on the first post as a reference of the poor souls that have come off the other end.

If Viney only ends up being as good as Brett Kirk I will cry. I realise the comparisons weren't just based on football ability but Viney probably already is a better player than Kirk.

I'd say he would be leading our votes per game for sure. Has been our most consistent performer this year IMO. Him coming back has been so very important to the team. You only need to look at how Vince and Jones have performed since his return to see how his defensive game and contested work frees up other midfielders. His impact on our midfield goes well beyond stats. I thought he stalled a little in his 2nd year, but he has made amazing progress this year. Roos is a perfect coach for a player like Viney.

Whilst I understand your comments, just under 250 games, premiership player, captain of his club, All-Australian, best and fairest winner, voted best captain one year by the AFLPA and most courageous too and a couple international rules series. Bit stiff saying Viney is already a better player, but i get your train of thought none the less

More talented he means.

Much has been said about his destruction of players, but what about his rise in other areas.

He is a contested possession machine, whose work in close in second to none. He extracts the ball so well and gets it out to the outside players.

HE IS A BEAST!!!!

Bumping this thread in the hopes that there will be additions to it after the Lions game.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
