Has Bernie Vince become our best player?

Featured Replies

He is almost certainly our most important, but it's a stretch to call him our best.

For you, not for me.

Nate Jones is our best player by far. No doubt.

I didn't think we could have a 'best player'. Wasn't that where your argument before stemmed from?

It's called setting the bait chris. Got you instead.

Says more than you know (about us both really)

Every time I read his name I hear it in Old Man Crawf's voice.

VINCE!

VINCE!

*fart*

Edit: yes, my contributions to this forum are immense.

It's difficult to believe Vince had ZERO pre-season and is playing the way he is. Either he's a freak or pre-seasons are overrated. Maybe both.

that's the benefit of having 7 odd pre-seasons before that and not being a big heavy player

Bump. Jones was superb but Vince's last month has been as good as anyone in the comp. What an inspired pick up.

I love the Jones and Vince combination. They look for each other and share the ball and are playing like team mates. That makes such a difference to Jones I'm sure. With Viney tagging and other mids running through it makes a great combination.

Vince was amazing but honestly i thought viney was better, totally stopped selwood, gathered 27 touches,19 contested and 5 clearances as well

Huge from a bloke less than 40 games

I love that when Viney/Vince shut someone down, they get a load of of the ball themselves.

Keeping someone to 15-20 touches while you only get 10 yourself is nowhere as important as collecting 25 damaging touches yourself. Viney was excellent today, Selwood only came into the game when it was too late.

He is in AA form. I think Vince/Jones would be neck and neck for the bluey atm.

Always thought Bernie was handy and Jonesy inspirational, but this dreamteam in the middle with Viney and Brayshaw is mental. Where has this come from?!

May have just hit the front in the Bluey

I'm still a Jones boy but Mr. Vince has won me over this year

Still has another good 3 to 4 years of good footy left in him.

I really feel he has embraced this footy club.

I can't wait to watch Bernie play finals with us.

I get the feeling that he would relish it. Seems to love the big games.

He always pops up with a crucial goal, too.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
