Has Bernie Vince become our best player?

Vince should have 12 Brownlow votes by now. If we win as few more games, he should be a rough chance for AA honours.

What games do you have him polling votes and how many?

I could only find around 7-9

I love the Vince long kick off one step too. I love it because when we actually have players forwards of the ball it is extremely effective and doesn't allow opposition defenders to set up. I may have mentioned this a few times here in the past.

He does that thing where it spills (or gets directed) out of a stoppage to him, and he kinda rocks back, does a fadeaway move, and kicks super high, where his boot makes contact with the ball around shoulder height, in order for him to clear the players trying to spoil that are right in front of him, takes a split second reaction to pull it off and he pumps it long. Happened several times out of the middle last week and puts us inside 50 about 5 seconds after the ball is bounced

The long-life likes of an R. Harvey, C. Bradley or Sam Mitchell type all seem to have these durable ever-ready work-horse bodies. Bernie is some other bizarre creation, just starting to elevate his game at 30ish and still looking like a serious spring chicken. It's hard to even imagine a deliberation on his retirement in a couple years. Vince been evidently watching Cocoon vids on VHS for match-day motivation.

yes, if you knew nothing of bernie's background and just met him you'd think he was closer to 20 than 30

we might get quite a few more years yet.....here's hoping

And hopefully enough games for his alleged off-field proclivities to reward us with a rich supply of illegitimate father-son mini-V's. Just noticed his ripper against the Cats was Bernie's 100th goal in the AFL. Not a bad way to bring up the milestone.

You mean to say he's dangerous because he kicks the ball forward quickly meaning our forwards don't have extra defenders around them? What an outrageous tactic.

Isn't it better to handball backwards and around and around until the defenders get back and then rush a kick onto the boot that lands 20 metres closer to the opposition's goals than if they kicked it in the first place? That sounds like the more logical move.

Has had virtually no pre-season.

Genius move!

No preseason. I thought we got rid of he-who-we-effectively-traded-him-for for that same reason.

Shows that some see it as an excuse for failure, others see it as a challenge to overcome.

Another BOG performance... This bloke is all class, what a pick up his been. He was always a good player at Adelaide but I reckon his taken his game to another level. Can't recall too many players who have been able to shut down the oppositions best mid but still be so offensive and hit the scoreboard. Hopefully his got a few more good years left in him.. What a legend

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
