2015 apparent out of contract players merged with targets at seasons end

Which will look ridiculous if he has an average year, decides to leave anyway and gets less money. If he was so emphatic about knocking back the deal then I'm shocked that he hasn't re-signed with us yet.

It's possible that we haven't offered him a deal.

The biggest worry is our clear lack of depth when we have injuries. We still have to recruit mids and a ruck combination, however, the club must continue to de-dud our list cloggers who are still on the payroll

It takes time I'm afraid. In two years time, if we're still in the same position I'll be very worried. Given the list Roos inherited, I think he's done very well so far to turn the list over and bring in some B graders.

I don't get why everyone wants to move Salem. He is the perfect half back runner with speed and skill. Yes definitely throw him into the middle for a few centre clearances but he is very valuable currently running off half back.

eventually, i think he'll be a waste off half back, I think he'll be more creative than just a half back.

after he learn's the halfback role and he gets stronger, he may move to around the middle more?

I think it was Howe for pick 7. I would have jumped at it, myself.

EDIT. Sorry, a little late on that reply.

may have been late because GWS are interested in Howe, but didn't want to take the risk of losing Shiel last year. they will anyway I think. but they're at least given themselves the chance to keep him.

I think the Hawks cats blues & pies will be circling close by. as will Sheedy, be buzzing about.

I reckon we have to lucre that GWS want, but does Shiel want here, or elsewhere?

I dont know that all top level rucks have "mongrel" some do some dont

Stef m had 20 possessions vs carlton (?) but doesnt have mongrel

Id like a ruck who is an extra midfielder over a straight tap plodder with mongrel

yes, but as I said earlier give me 'Clark Keating' over all our past rucks. crashes packs, players, & the ball, & marks around the ground on Que. a true BIG game player, & premiership winner. turned games

Not really a worry, besides for the rest this season

The depth is much better than last year and after this seasons trade and draft period it will be fixed completely.

It's never completely fixed 'hogan', always a work in progress...but yes the list should have better balance. A couple of A graders in the middle would be good though.

Disagree. We're another two years off having solid depth.

Offer Leuenberger a 4-yr $1.2m contract and see what happens.

I know what will have happened. We'll have spent $700,000 more than we should have.

Disagree with that, I think we will have solid depth after this draft/trade period and really good depth after that going forward (assuming the club is fixed and Goodwin and co know what they are doing)

We'll agree to disagree there then. I think Kent and Jetta's injuries have shown our severe lack of depth, along with the fact that we've had to bring in Matt Jones, Grimes and Bail. Their inclusions speak volumes. We've gone from a D grade midfield last year to a C grade midfield this year. It's ultimately a very young midfield too.

David Armitage.

Would be great! but he plays with such spirit for the Saints I doubt if he would ever leave. He's totally bought in. Your on the right track tho and an enquiry should be sent. We need players to commit to the Dees like he has to the Saints.

Jones, Salem, JKH, Brayshaw, Viney, Hogan and now Petracca have all signed extensions to commit to this club?

Just remember they have had their fair share of loss in experience players.. Goddard, Dal Santo, McEvoy just to name a few..

That is way too much money. He's good but not that good.

I'd say 5 mill over 7 would be about right

lets not quibble over a couple of million dollars here

He's totally worth that and sometimes you have a to pay a bit more to get what you desperately need.

Agreed, and as I have put about 5 times, Howie gave it one second of thought and said NO

Do you REALLY expect Howe to tell you "yeah, I sat down and thought hard about it for days, gave it a lot of thought... but thought that in the end I had a better chance of hiding my deficiencies at Melbourne and getting a fat payday in the long run"

You amaze me sometimes with your stubborn ignorance of reality.

They are not going to tell you what they really think.

Silvagni, now away from the Giants, & recruiting I believe for Carlton may be interested still???

if they are interested in a Howe, it shouldn't be too big a move for the fella. after all, he grew up I think, next door to Carlton?

I agree with the others, but not Vickery. Not to mention, a bloody ordinary player and a bloody ordinary bloke.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
