How [censored] poor is it that 2 years into the rebuild of a rebuild of a rebuild, the delisting/trade thread is at 86 pages with 2 rounds still to play.

An absolute indictment on this club and playing group.

No, it's an indictment on the supporters who, year after year, think the answer is in players who aren't at the club yet.

The answer is, and has been for years, finding it within the current crop of players, the overwhelming majority of whom are the ones who will be playing next year, to work out what is going wrong, to apply themselves, to work harder, and to better themselves individually and as a team.

We can delist fringe players all we like. We can bring in a FA and/or some kids. But 35+ of the current playing group will be there next year, and more than we need to bring people in, we need to get the players on the list performing to an acceptable standard.

Paul Roos said himself that the view about list changes is 'changing all the time'

Roosey knows that this off season is make or break for his legacy at melbourne and he's given some latitude tona lot of players that just havent repaid the faith.

id be staggered if we delisted or traded less than 10.

Agree.

Supporters thinking there will be minimal list changes are genuinely deluded.

Free Agents, Delisted Free Agents, trade period. Do it smartly.

Continue to move on the virus-players + the deadwood.

Spot on. Some were deluded enough to talk about 6 list changes because of a "weak draft". Spare me.

Last year was supposedly weak too and vandenBerg was about the 70th player picked. They're out there.

Maybe Paul Roos would like to trade supporter base. We are far too negative.

Try dishing up the last few weeks to Richmond, Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, Hawthorn, Adelaide, Port Adelaide, WestCoast supporters. Your head would be on a stick.

Blame the supporters all you like, we haven't failed the club because we are still paying membership. What about you? Would you be happy to show the last 3 weeks of MFC games as the mark you have left on football? The insipid performances of the players the last 3 weeks is a direct result of Paul Roos not the supporters. Man up, make the tough decisions show some god damn spine, and then the players might. Until then the supporters keep this club going and don't you forget it.

In light of the 'debacle' of this season - it is interesting to note that Roos will push the amount of players he has moved on to over 30 this summer.

There are 44 places on the list...

Not eligible for F/A yet, out of contract. So either trade or walk into the draft.

The general belief is that Howe wants to go elsewhere.

Well, he's planted the seed of the idea already.....

"I don't really care … to be honest," Roos said in response to a question about whether the players were still haunted by past losses.

"It's about performance. We've got to improve our performance as a footy club.

"Whilst I was sympathetic to the footy club and where it's been, the coaching group's been here long enough to not worry about what happened in the past.

"It's more about where we want to go and the direction we want to take the football club."

Be prepared for some Demonland favourites to be cut adrift......

It will be particularly interesting to see if any of the players who move on were recruited under the Roos regime. If any are, I expect posters to be equally split between (1) those who call it an admission of failure and a reason why we should get rid of Paul Roos and (2) those who call it a courageous decision and why we are so lucky to have Paul Roos.

Or those that just see it as list management decision made with facts in hand and reason.

I agree that that is how we will see it but it would be best to stop seeing everything through a predetermined lens.

I do like Grimes as frustrating as he can be, but one thing he needs to do is put on some serious muscle and get back to his 2011 size. He's far too small and weak at the moment.

Agreed, he needs to start eating some dead cow.

Posted

Not a chance. Had his best season and is finally starting to realise his potential.

Do you want him traded or something?

I wouldn't be fussed if he was traded, put it that way.

You're quite right. I should have added a third group for you and me. Anyone else who wants to join our group is welcome...but they have to declare their position - that it's a pure list management decision with no bearing on the suitability of the coach - now, not after a player recruited in the last two years is cut.

Anyone think Watts will be traded?

Yes. I think Roos showed us last year with Trengove that no one is safe. Roos keeps talking about the past and those that can't get over it. Like it or not Roos/Goodwin will/should have on their list

Watts

Howe

Garland

Dawes

Grimes

What's scary is what would we realistically get for any of them?? Would any other team take Dawes or Grimes? I can see Howe,Garland and possibly Watts gone this trade period. Dawes and Grimes can see our their careers at Casey or accept a revised payout. After the weekend the thought that they're worth more to us than to trade or delist is now officially dead and buried.

I have to agree.

In the past, there were a number of players I was attached to and hoped we wouldn't trade. Now there are only two or three that I'd be disappointed about losing. Anyone else can go, for the right deal and for the better of the side as a whole.

Out of that list Watts has the most value by far, I would keep him...but, you can never say never.

That's a much healthier stance than those that just want to trade him 'for a bag of chips.'

He has been good for a couple of months now while more highly touted 'stars' are crashing and burning the place down.

Of course he is tradeable but he is also becoming more and more valuable as a footy player.

I posted the other day R-Jay that moving all five is unlikely and that I would keep Watts out of the five. If we were to secure Lynch we would have 3 mobile fwd options. But as you have said "never say never". None of us know what Goodwin is thinking. Edited by Al's Demons

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
