This is a real winner for equalisation...

So the rich clubs get their zones, pour all the money in...pay off families to move to their zone.

Come on Dill, how about you run this place. Time to get on the front foot and lead, so far it seems the rich clubs and AFLPA are running the show...

I guess at least you've been able to get cheap chips.

I'm ok with zones as long as our zone is 'Melbourne'.

Hey, I'd even accept the other Vic clubs retaining zones in the areas they are named for, as a concession to them.

Daft idea, some kind of nostalgic blindness.

Honestly, where is this BS coming from?

Would be great if something like this could work IMO, but unfortunately it just couldn't. For the reasons stated above.

If Melbourne was interpreted as "Greater Melbourne", with Collingwood restricted to postcode 3066, EssUndone 3040 etc then that could work. With no family transfers after age 10.

But seriously, a nice idea but probably no longer practicable.

With the revision of the Academy drafting rules it's much less of an advantage than it once was (i.e in 2014)...

Is it good value to trade 18, 37, 38,57 for Heeney (at pick 2) and pick 64?

Or rather Billy Stretch (sans f/s at approx 18), Declan Hamilton (39), Alex Neal-Bullen (40), Oscar McDonald (53)

For Isaac Heeney (2) and Jayden Foster (63)?

Zoning 1965 style I am all for. A policy designed to destroy the dominance of the top teams of the day, yes let it rip. Back then it was designed to cripple our dominance, let's now cripple the Dorks, the Cats and Sydney and usher in a period where the smaller clubs dominate for a while.

development zones are a great idea, especially if the club get first dibs on a couple per year prior to draft day & get to take the best kid of our zone before the draft, just like the old father/son rules..

the key here is to make sure there isn't any cheating of the zoning. like state of origin, birth zone of origin.

this is good for the regions, & good for footy, & good for the tribalism of region footy supporters becoming our supporters.

Misdirection.

New father-son & academy selection rules... But quick! Look over here! The prospect of a shiny pointy scary zone concept!

*quickly accept the new development without question and be thankful we stopped there*

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
